it's actually octopuses, although people say Octopi it's not right cause thats using a greek word with a latin ending

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Octopuses uses an English ending. The word that uses a Greek ending is "octopodes". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFyY2mK8pxk

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I made a post about that hahaha

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If there were more words like that, we wouldn't enjoy them as much.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well it follows a Latin rule, where, long story short, most things ending in -us end in -i in the plural. Which is why Prius, cactus, and fungus have the i's.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That only applies to the nominative case though.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I am aware, but we don't apply cases to English. We don't say "Look at that cactum".

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Guess I've been saying it wrong this whole time.
