My astronomy teacher claims that they will have proved there's life on other planets in 2.5 years. He says we can come back to visit and point out if he was wrong if it doesn't happen, but it would be pretty awesome if it were true.

Think, in the observable universe there are approximately 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars. It is said that over 90% of these stars have planets orbiting them, and even whole solar systems much like our own. To say the only other life in the universe besides us on Earth, is like saying there is only 1 Asian person in the entire world. It is extremely likely there are hundreds of planets harboring intelligent life much like us, but we are far to apart to ever make contact.
