If I sit in my house and get high, it is not a matter of public health.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you think you should be treated like a criminal though?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, I think drugs should be legalized.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

:) Ok, I think the OP was talking about addiction, not just occasional recreational use.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But even if I am addicted, as long as I don't drive or attack people while on drugs, it isn't a problem for anyone other than me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You should still be able to get help if you need it and be treated for your addiction rather than sent to jail.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can get help for addiction without being sent to jail...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Depends on where you live I guess. But if you get caught with drugs (where I live) you are arrested and you are treated like a criminal and get a record and often jail time when many people just need help for their addiction. Putting addicts in jail doesn't help them or the societal problem of drugs it just makes it worse and harder for them to cope in the real world and stigmatises them as criminals when really they have a disease. The system mainly focus' on punishing these people instead of helping them to recover.

I agree.

When you need a heart transplant from years of doing sketchy drugs and cases of Narcan to pull you out of your OD year after year and rack up millions in hospital bills getting your life saved you'll never pay it IS a public health problem!
