+236 If everyone believed in an afterlife, Why is death so mourned? Funerals should be like parties! amirite?

Hindus' funerals are basically one group of men getting drunk and lighting fireworks.

Um i have no idea what you're talking about, I am a practicing Hindu and ive been to many funerals, Hindus don't mix alcohol with holy events/rituals/practices. There are non-Hindus in Chennai too you know.

Also that could very likely be a wedding procession because in the South of India, the groom is traditionally carried on closed palanquin. In North India the groom generally comes on a white horse.

Actually, they're not. The body is in plain view and they're being carried away to be cremated (spelling?)

It's the goodbye that hurts. Still though, you guys inspired me with your comments :D when I die I'm gonna have my family burn my body and dance around the fire, vodkas and mini skirts and funny hats are an obligation.

The reason why people cry is because that person has left to the afterlife without them!

Because if given the choice, everybody would die right now.

well when someone really close them dies....that thought crosses A LOT of peoples minds.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...This is true. But only because they miss them; a lot of them wouldn't actually want to die if they thought about it.

Well, in Mexico they do believe in that and they have celebrations like Day of the Dead where they celebrate their loved ones dying and having have moved to a better place. The post is phrased incorrectly, it should maintain the same tense. "If ___ would ____, then why is?"

But the whole concept of an afterlife is ridiculous. I don't think it's necessary to believe that to be able to celebrate someone's life, I generally focus upon the positives and try and remember the happy times we had together rather than the fact I'll never see them again.

Funerals - real fun!

The person that passed away will still be missed. And, there are always some dunderheads that //don't// believe in an afterlife. So, they are left to ponder their own mortality and the end of their own existence. Not exactly a party theme.
