As opposed to wetting the toothpaste before it's on the brush.

I wet the toothbrush, put the toothpaste on, and brush my teeth.

I have to wet the toothbrush, then put on toothpaste, then dry the handle of my toothbrush and dry my hands. Only then may I begin to brush my teeth.

Is it weird that I don't run my toothbrush under water before or after putting the toothpaste on?
