When you were little, and maybe still, you went by the rule that "a few" meant three, amirite?

XD
It did when I was stealing candy from my bag after halloween or something. But if it was something like... "Eat a few more bites of dinner, then you can have dessert," then it was always 3.

Or 4.
by Anonymous13 years ago
if it was eating veggies it was like three more pieces if it was candy or something like that it was a big ol' hand full

Few doesn't mean three. A couple means two, but few doesn't mean three.
by Anonymous13 years ago
It doesn't state that 'few means three', it states that when somebody said 'a few' you took 'three'.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm sorry, I got confused because it has the exact quote "few meant three".
by Anonymous13 years ago
selective quoting much?

When I was little, I thought a couple and a few were synonms. It wasn't until I was in 7th grade that I found out a couple meant two.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Hah I thought this too! And that 'several' meant 7.
by Anonymous13 years ago
agree. several is 7 or more to me, but a few, for me, is like anywhere from 3-5.
by Anonymous13 years ago
That's exactly me! Well, except few is 3-6.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Me too! :D
by Anonymous13 years ago
I would say 3 or 4, because if you count using your fingers it's "one-two, a-few".
by Anonymous13 years ago
Depends on if we were talking about cookies or Brussels sprouts.

I remember one time when I was little in the Burger King playland, my mom said I only had a couple more minutes, so I counted the letters in "couple" and that was how many minutes I had. But that doesn't really have to do with this.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I always figured 'a few' meant 4, and 'some' meant 3...
