+352 You know you don't play an important part in a play when the person you play doesn't have a real name (ex. Man in backround, business man on cell phone) amirite?

One time, in a school play, I was girl. GIRL.

Even though what I'm gonna say is cheesy, all parts are important. If there was no company, there would be no show.

Exactly sir

There are no small parts. Only small actors. this especailly riegns true in Beauty and the Beast. How do you expact to have an ENTIRE village onstage if no one wants it?? Or all the singing and dancing dinner-ware?? Every member of a show is important and don't doubt that. :)

Ah. It's refreshing to see that people on this site actually see the importance of every role in the play. When I went to this comment section I expected kind of a general "lol ya I hate getting small parts" agreement. I'm glad I was wrong.

My school is actually putting on the play in 2011... around May, I think....

I did the show this year and was a plate and the yarn seller. I was noticed even though i was just chorus(:

Our acting tryouts are next Wednesday, so I'm hoping to get a good (ish) part....

to be honest, even if you dont get a lead there are still tons of solos you get and four or five songs deticated to chorus alone..

I'm hoping for a Silly Girl, but apparently all the girls in my grade are also trying for the same part, so it's pretty much a contest between us all. I'm a crappy high singer (I'm an alto) but (in my opinion) I'm a good actor, and better than some of the other girls, so it's fingers crossed! Acting tryouts are Wednesday so everyone is really hyper and excited, lol.

GOOD LUCK!! The silly girls in my play were hilarious!!! they were some of the best characters in the play(:

Thank you! I'm not the greatest singer, so I'm gonna ask if I can drop the song an octave. And I'm a pretty funny/happy person, so acting silly shouldn't be a problem! (I can just use my knowledge of the girls in my grade! XD )

im glad you were wrong too(:

Over the summer, I played an air fairy in the tempest. It was actually a bigger part than a lot, I just had very few lines and several people were fairies. We were on stage a lot though.

what my drama teacher would do is give those parts a name, just stress the importance of each part for new actors who think that small part are useless. for example, instead of have a part called 'girl' she'd give the part a girls name, like erica or another name thats common/generic.

last week i was in my schools production of scrooge an english pantomime. i was an unspeaking worker and mourner number 2 xD though they sound unimportant i was on stage a lot! really with out me who else was supposed to do the chicken dance on stage or suggest we go out drinking to celebrate scrooges death!

I was a gargoyle in a version of Snow White that my high school did for the younger schools. There were six of us, we didn't have names, but we had some of the biggest parts in the play. I think it just would have been confusing wth names.

I was a dancing penguin in Happy Feet. There were a lot of penguins so I was in the background
