+333 Losing a pet can sometimes be more devastating than losing some family members. amirite?

Maybe more than a distant family member. Also, as horrible as it sounds, I feel more affection for my pets than my brother.

Well, considering the fact that dogs/pets are not capable of intelligent thought, I'd say by a realist standpoint, that idea is sad. Humans mean more and can give more than pets. I've had several bubble-wrap pets, and I was sad when they popped. But when a Box brethren dies, it is more of an issue. I'm sad for the loss you are probably experience, but please, don't be one of those people that cares for animals more than a life.

"don't be one of those people that cares for animals more than a life." thats just wrong, animals are a life too. Not all humans give more than pets do, I've had pets that were always there for me through thick and thin when no one else was. And what about seeing eye dogs or ponies? Bomb sniffing dogs or land mine sniffing mice? police dogs? Or even a pet that serves as the only living companion for an elderly man who has lost his spouse? I love animals more than most people, they are genuine, sweet, and loving. People will never all truly be that way.

Well, I do believe that animals are a life. I believe that they have feelings, emotions, etc. And those animals may be an exception. But the average family pet where the mom has 4 kids and a husband and says "I prefer the dog to the children," and buys the dog "gourmet" food yet won't even cook for the kids is what annoys me.

Okay, well that's just being a bad father, but an average family pet can still be more than just a pet. Like I said, my pets are always there for me, even if its just to be something alive for me to sit by to make me not feel alone.

I know, but think. Who had more of an impact on your life, personality, and overall output on life? A dog, or your parents?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They may have had more of an impact on who I am today, but I do still care for animals more than most people, I've never been hurt by an animal before I cant say the same for people.

Animals are actually less than humans, as God explains in Genesis two. Well, what about a stick? I don't think it's ever hurt you! And it'll listen to you. And it can even mark places in the ground! You disgust me that you actually value an animal's life over a human's. Even Hitler's life is more important than any animal. Which is why the death penalty is so indescribable horrible. The fact that a government feels it has the authority to control someone's life makes me sick. Our country is no longer a shining beacon. Our country sucks.

Indescribably*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh no, not you, seriously go away. Your opinion is not wanted here.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well I can see why you might be so lonely as to only have a pet.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're the perfect example of why i like animals so much. I've never met an animal that was a complete and total douchebag such as yourself.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And I've never met a moralless animal claiming to be something it's not. But that doesn't mean animal lives are more important than human lives.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Like I said it makes them more genuine. You dont have to agree, i dont give a damn if you agree especially because it's you. Thats how I feel, I fucking hate people, i dont care if you think its wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wasn't implying that I value animal lives over humans. I was merely saying that dealing with a pet's loss can sometimes be more difficult than dealing with a family member's loss.. by family member I meant someone whom I've only met a few times. Not like my parents or siblings. My dog helped me cope with deaths of close family members. I've been trying to look for her around the house to help me cope with hers, but she's not there anymore, which makes it just even more devastating. I wasn't trying to imply anything regarding the value of an animal's life.

I know what you were saying http://www.amirite.net/444922/801790 That is where I say I see where you're coming from, and have no objection.

I don't know my great aunt well. Obviously, I'd be sad if she died, but if the German shepherd I've had since I was 4 died, I'd be devastated. I've become more attached to her and I've lived with her every day for the past 11 years. She's like a sister, in a sense. Granted, I'd care more if someone in my immediate family died, but still...

that's exactly what I meant Katffo. Thank you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

depends on how ur family members treat you

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thats what i was thinking. Like if your family members hate you with a passion, then yeah losing a pet would be pretty damn hard considering pets will love you no matter what you look like.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It comes down to the closeness you feel for a particular person or your pet. I agree with OP. When my 11 year old dog passes, that will be much harder for me than a person I'm not as close to. Do not argue with this post. Its not an animal v human debate. Its individually based.

An animal can never exceed that of a human, equal it, definitely but not exceed it.
