Exploiting classified government files is a much higher level of privacy breach when compared to the phone calls, e-mails, etc. of citizens. Why? Because some of the information on Wikileaks jeopardizes national security.

National Security? The biggest threat to our Democracy as outlined by the Bush administration and the collapse of our economy is Domestic Terrorists. I'm not talking about the men in caves with beards, I'm talking about corrupt politicians. The ones who got us into war in the first place through lies and false pretenses. The ones who let banks do whatever the fuck they want to and run the economy into the ground. The ones spending billions of tax payer money for their buddies to get rich and leave our grandchildren broke. The ones in bed with oil companies that allow us to continue relying on oil from Nations exposed to be funding terrorists, also Corporations who do business with countries like Iran via proxy despite our sanctions. My point went over your head. Several articles on Wikileaks detail military intelligence both about our own forces and combatant forces. With this information made public, anyone can have access to our classified military intelligence. In the midst of two seemingly endless, albeit unnecessary, wars, do you not think that this specific knowledge needs to stay classified? I'm all for exposing the underlying corruption in our government, but not making our military intelligence public knowledge.

That is dangerous for our operations there. That I'll admit. However, outright claiming that their very existence is bad for national security is a little weak. I do think he should focus on corruption, but somebody has to light a fire under the Government's ass and I am glad they are. I propose a witch hunt for corruption in religion, government and corporations. Let the cards start falling and the swine's true faces to be revealed.

I think I should have been more specific in my first comment. When citing "national security" I strictly was referring to military intelligence. I believe we are, for the most part, on the same page. In unrelated news, I enjoy your style of writing.

You're being kind of condescending, saying your comment went over Bliss's head. The op is obviously educated and was trying to get a point across and just happened to miss your point (the way I see it) although now you both seem to be on the same page. I have something to add to this, in a democratic country, the freedom of the people is the MOST important thing, not the military's safety (although they are important too) because the military is there to protect the people. A country cannot be made out of a military alone. My father used to live in Soviet Ukraine, where the people were being watched all the time, he told me they knew so much about the people, it was shocking. They have pictures of you going into stores and buying things. They have records of you talking to people. In this country EVERYONE was afraid of everyone else and didn't trust anyone. Is that the kind of country you want America to become?

My "over your head" remark was meant in no way to be "condescending" or anything of the sort. I was not implying anything about his level of intelligence. Secondly, you are reading into my words too much and taking a nonsensical twist on them. In no way did I imply that I wanted a nation such as the one as your description. I simply believe that the safety of our military (who PROTECTS the freedom of our people) should not be put in jeopardy.

Who's to say that it won't go that far? Do you think that the military protects the people from their own government? They follow what their superior says and at the top of the military is the President, he's not going to say, "Hey, protect the people from me." Before you enter the military you have to be sworn in and here's part of the Oath that I my self had once recited, "I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States" so the military's job is not only to protect the country, but to also protect what the country stands for! If the country is taking the liberty of the people, then what are they protecting? What is the point of the military?

There is a difference: The government is by the people for the people. That's what makes our government different from any other, it's legitimate only by our consent. We are not Parent and Child, the government exists to serve us not the other way around. What it is turning into is a Big Brother state just like you are stating and the fact that you are willing to so casually accept that is further proof. Thank you Bliss, for once we have a competent post. I completely agree with your stance. We need more informed people like you around! It's sad how people are so willing to give up their rights and privacy for a false sense of 'security'. This is why the government and politicians are able to pass these corrupt laws/acts and entangle our country in dirty dealings. It is because the general public is so misinformed about the rights our country stands for, and this ignorance spurs corruption on to a height we can't even imagine.
