Auto racing should not be considered a sport, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
nor should golf
by Anonymous13 years ago
Golf involves physical exertion, skill, and competitiveness.
by Anonymous12 years ago
"An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others."
by Anonymous12 years ago
And where's the physical exertion? It's sitting in a car driving around a track.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Physical exertion of the cars, I guess.
And technically the drivers move their arms and legs.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Chess players move their arms and legs too. When I'm sitting in a desk in class, I move my arms and legs. Heck, when I'm asleep I move my arms and legs. That does not qualify.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I guess it actually needs technique and strategy?
idk just a thought lol, it seems really redundant
by Anonymous12 years ago
I think the heat of the cars/trucks is what causes the physical exertion. Those cars are not air conditioned. A driver can lose 10lbs in one race just from all the sweat.
by Anonymous12 years ago
TEN POUNDS?!?!!
WTF, THAT'S MORE INSANE THAN A SAUNA, NO BATHEING IN FUCKING LAVA.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Have you ever actually driven a competition car like that?
by Anonymous12 years ago
Habe you ever watched Formula 1? It's basically a driver pushing his body to the absolute limits, and pushing his mental capabilities, and his endurance to the point where it's about to snap. All at speeds of up to 170 miles per hour.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Physical exertion means exercise. Exercise involves muscle. Guess what cars don't have.
Autoracing isn't a sport. The drivers don't exercise while racing. They pump adrenaline probably, but that's not exercise. They might exercise outside of the race, but that's just exercising personally. Autoracing is more of a game.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Why not?
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm ok with racing, but it pisses me off when ESPN shows the World Series of Poker.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It really depends.. Are we talking NASCAR or Formula 1?
by Anonymous12 years ago
If NASCAR, then I say not a sport, if F1, then absolutely a sport.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I agree completely, what those guys do is insane
by Anonymous12 years ago
what's the difference?
I heard that in F1, people were able to drive upside down?
lol please excuse my ignorance...
by Anonymous12 years ago
In NASCAR, it's all really wide left turns in enclosed trucks. In F1, it's open air racing with straights, left turns, right turns, and all sorts of hills and such. All of that is being taken at speed from 90-200 mph, which strains a driver both physically and mentally, and pushes their endurance.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Isn't that highly dangerous?
by Anonymous12 years ago
Yep.

Cheerleading isn't legally a sport, and it's WAY more physical than racing.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Cheerleading is, by definition, a sport. Anyone who says otherwise is a fucking dumbass.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Legally, it's considered an "activity."
by Anonymous12 years ago
And by definition, it's considered a "sport". And by most other people, it's considered a "sport". And by technical dipshits who like to spout out their matter-o'-fact bullshit, it's considered an "activity".
Cheerleading is competitive. It's exercising and it requires skill. It is a SPORT. "Legally" my ass, then the legal shit is wrong.
by Anonymous12 years ago
That's what I'm trying to say. It should be legally considered a sport, but it's not. Yes, it started out as just dancing, but now it is quite a bit different. I know if I tried it, I couldn't do that shit.
by Anonymous12 years ago
A sport by my definition is an activity in which a person dresses unusually and physically exerts themselves. Car racing does not count as physical exertion. Sure, it gets hot in there, but it also gets hot in Arizona and I don't call all the senior citizens out on their porches athletes.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Is chess a sport?
by Anonymous12 years ago
No.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Once you actually race in a Grand Prix Formula 1, I'd like to see you STILL not call it a sport. I understand where you're getting but you have no idea what kind of things the drivers are going thru
by Anonymous12 years ago
It doesn't matter what they go through. It's what they're doing that matters.
