+537 It's so much better to be a pessimist. if you're an optimist, and something does go right, you thought it would, so you're not as happy. If it goes wrong, you get mad because you thought it would go right. As a pessimist, you wouldn't care if something went wrong, because that's what you expected. But if something goes right, You are 10x happier, because you didn't expect it, amirite?

Finally, someone thinks the same. This is exactly what I believe! Thank you :)

I told me sister exactly this yesterday and she called me a freak.

An optimist does not get 'mad;' an optimist will find the good in the bad whereas a pessimist will find the bad in it no matter the outcome. If you disagree, you need to redefine what it means to be an optimist/pessimist because in your example you are not necessarily addressing a type of personality, but rather a specific case to which a person lacked faith in the situation's ability to meet a favorable outcome.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's exactly what I was going to say. Optimists are pretty happy no matter what. It's people who expect the best or expect the worse that get pleasantly surprised/let down.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My exact way of thinking.

"If you're an optimist, and something does go right, you thought it would, so you're not as happy" Simply not true. "As a pessimist, you wouldn't care if something went wrong, because that's what you expected." Utter bullshit. As if you'd be immune to anything bad simply because it's what you expected. It's a common known FACT that if you are pessimistic you are more likely to become depressed.

Actually, optomists see the brughtsude in anything they can. Like hopfully the half of this post about pessimist getting to be really happy is true, even though the part about optmists is not.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well depending on your definitions of optimist and pessimist. A real optimist would probably just stay happy no matter what, and a real pessimist would probably just stay not-happy no matter what. If you changed 'optimist' for 'some who always gets their hopes up', and vice verse for 'pessimist'...

I'm an optimist and I don't automatically assume everything's going to go right. Some may call me a realist, but I'm an optimist because when there's bad situations I have hope. For example, when I found out my friend had cancer, all my friends were saying "Oh no I hope she's going to be okay!" I knew she was going to be okay. She is okay now, and even though I knew that it was going to be okay, I was still relieved.

i try to stay happy and positive all the time, but this is hilarious!!! :) don't freak out everyone! (its a joke!!!)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

atleast 1 person gets it

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Kind of off topic but, I don't mind optomistic people, its just if you're like "Sunshine and Rainbows and Puppies! Nothing bad ever happens ever! I love you all!" that tends to annoy me.

It's just better to be a realist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wait, I think I'm more of a realist than anything. I'm definitely not optimistic, maybe not so pessimistic.

http://www.amirite.net/204965 I posted this exact same thought 5 months before you did. If you had used the search before you posted this, you would have known that. Honestly, is it that damn hard to check before you post something?
