It's not necessarily like that... if you pick a good group instead of your only friends in the class, then you can all work together swimmingly. If the teacher assigns it, then they usually have a good reason for doing it. I work with teachers, professors, and doctors so trust me I know a lot about them. Even if something seems pointless they usually have a good reason for doing it.

One of my teachers believes that every test should be some kind of group test or note test because you never rely completely on your knowledge for something, and if you get stuck with a bad group you have to deal with it because life isn't fair.
