-20 Why are people who don't belive in God celabrating Christmas??? Are they even aware of the fact that we're celebrating his the birth of Christ.... not presents? It would be like a Christian celebrating Hannuka! amirite?

... So, he was born on December 25?

Druid: Why are Christians celebrating Christmas on the Winter Solstice?!?! It's a time to pay homage to the spirits and nature ...not a zombie.

MONKEYTRUMPETS! The Solstice!

Christmas is no longer defined as strictly a "religious holiday." Over time, society has transformed Christmas into a universal holiday centered around generosity and family. The majority of people who celebrate the holiday do not actively observe Christianity.

Jesus was born in the summer. Christians have adopted Christmas to convince the Romans to convert to their religion, and they based it off if the Roman holiday Saturnalia, which is pretty much Christmas except they're celebrating Saturn. so Christmas isn't purely a Christian holiday

I heard that Jesus was born in spring, and that they moved it to December 25th to convince the pagans who celebrated the birth of the sun god Mithras at that time...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yah the church was big on exterminating paganism because they believed pagans were worshipping the devil in the form of their many gods so the christians placed their holidays over the pagan ones to get them to convert

Well said, DanielJames; took the words right off my fingertips.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I celebrate christmas not because of the religious part but because of family tradition so deal with it

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Christians pretty much stole Christmas from pagans, then renamed it to Christmas.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We atheists just love kicking chistians in the jingle balls

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Who's celebrating Christmas? I'm celebrating the joys of Capitalism!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh no, not another religious argument..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe I'd take this seriously without all the spelling mistakes

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well to be fair, as a Christian I can't help but feel like this post is hypocritical. Why should we receive gifts if we are truly celebrating Jesus's birth? So yes, the holiday has Christian meaning, but 'pagan' traditions.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We recieve gifts because Jesus was the gift to us by God. So it is symbolic, but also true in the fact that gift giving isn't an actual part of the religious side of it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Probably because people can celebrate whatever they want. Holidays mean different things to different people. Just because you view Christmas one way, doesn't mean that everyone else views it the same way or attaches the same meaning.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most Christians don't even celebrate it as the birth of Christ. They may claim that they do, but deep down, they don't. It's not about family, it's not about togetherness, and it's certainly not about Christ. It's all about the damn presents. </rant> I am Christian and I know where I'm coming from.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Christ wasn't actually born in December. Also, everyone likes presents.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not the true birthday of christ but all those special facts beside. No kid thinks christmas then jesus. They think christmas-santa-jesus. Plus its more a commercial holiday than anything now days

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am Hindu but I celebrate Christmas. Think of it like this: If you moved to Israel where a lot of people around you were Jewish and celebrated Hanukkah would it be so terrible if you joined in on the fun?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is a pagan holiday. Why do people care so much what other people celebrate? Op has control issues...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

These comments are stressful to read...just because it's not the actual day doesn't mean anything; you're still celebrating the birth of Jesus. That's my input to this (hopeless?) cause.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm a Christian, and I sometimes celebrate Hanukkah.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How 'bout everyone just shuts up and lets others celebrate whatever the hell they want to? Personally, I think it's wrong. But I truely don't give a fuck.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most of us celebrate Halloween, but not for the original purpose it served. We just like to dress up and get free candy, right?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wait you mean when i trick or treat in my costume the spirits of the dead aren't seeing me as a monster also and that my jack-o-lantern isn't keeping them away from my house?.....but....but....the candy....

The bible... Pics or it didn't happen

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(WC-bulldog): theres no pics of anything that happened 2,000 years ago smarty, but theyre are books written by non- belivers from then recording all the things that jesus did, thats just as much proof as any other scriptures we find

by Anonymous 13 years ago

christmas is more of a cultural thing than religious thing nowadays

by Anonymous 13 years ago

WHO THA FUK IS CHRISTIAN?!?!11?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Annoying troll is annoying

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Okay

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you really were celebrating Jesus you would celebrate the fact he was of Jewish decent and would technically be celebrating the holiday of light. We could go on to question if the son of God was Jewish why are you not Jewish too but here is a pithole we will walk past. Christmas hasn't been about Jesus in a long time. It never was truely about him but it was wrapped to look like it. If you want to stop spreading joy by taking away a holiday surely that is unchristian? Ergo you are not a christian and are a hypocritical person for celebrating christmas.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am an atheist who loooves Christmas. I like spending time with family and I do like presents :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

if you truly want to celebrate the birth of Christ, then stop giving presents and spend your Christmas at church. Oh and, you can't celebrate halloween either...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...no. You're wrong for so many reasons, all of which have already been stated ^ up there.
