Was that supposed to be good?
by Anonymous12 years ago
I'm American and I NW'd this.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Radiohead came from England
by Anonymous12 years ago
No, it just has more opportunities. Let's say 20% of your music is good, and you have 100x people, you'll have 20x good musicians. My country has like 50x people (financially able to produce music), let's say, and then it would also have 10x good musicians out of all. America has more of EVERYTHING than any country, because it has more money and therefore more opportunities.
There's also the problem of the American/English internet flourishing and Google being fucking amazing, while in other countries and languages it's shit like it was ten years ago. So, it's pretty hard to find ANY music not to mention good music. But with the iTunes and other sites, you just type a genre and you get 8 billion artists and songs, a fraction of which are good, and most of which are American.
But overall, Americans are not more talented. If anything, they're less.
by Anonymous12 years ago
I agree. There's so many more opportunities for Americans to get into the music industry. If someone from another country were to try then they have to make it big in so many countries before they could attempt to make it big in America.
by Anonymous12 years ago
The post wasn't saying that America has more good songs, but it was saying it's overall better, so like an average.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Yeah, but that's what I'm saying: even if others are JUST as good or better, people won't know about it since there's like 20 good people and they're not even advertised or shown on television. There are so many millions of American artists that people are bound to find a lot of good ones, and there are not so many foreign ones so all people hear of them is crap.
by Anonymous12 years ago
You're over analyzing it..
by Anonymous12 years ago
Eh, things like this are hard to explain without going into detail. I´ve just thought about this a lot, and realised how much I hate it, and this is just the first time my opinion on that is actually relevant.
I mean, I´m not American, but I listen to American music, mostly because I´ve really got no choice. It takes hours to find one decent band from another country/language.

...8 Billion artists.

dictionary.com/hyperbole
by Anonymous12 years ago
That's not a real link, B for effort. Hyperbole is an extreme exaggeration such as 50 billion. 8 billion makes you sound retarded
by Anonymous12 years ago
It's not meant to be a real link.
There's no rules to an exaggeration.
"Exaggerated statements or claims //not// meant to be taken literally"
8 billion or 50 billion, it's still way over the few thousands or millions you'll get.
Also, fuck off.

Face palm loses effect with over use but if that's what you need to do for a half ass argument so be it, you'll learn the rules of the Internet eventually. Wow just relax a little sport no need to get testy. All I was saying Is the things you type and think make you seem to have an IQ <75
by Anonymous12 years ago
Most of my favorite music is from Europe (especially Scandinavia), but my favorite band (Dream Theater) is from the United States, so I'm remaining neutral.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Hedley, These Kids Wear Crowns, Marianas Trench and Faber Drive are Canadian
by Anonymous12 years ago
YES Marianas Trench. However I don't feel that TKWC is really that distinct or special...maybe it's just me.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Marianas Trench was definitely the best on my list there and TKWC may not be 'special' they still have some decent songs
by Anonymous12 years ago
So my first thought was "damn right, it's better than yours".
by Anonymous12 years ago
Rolling Stones, The Beatles. Radio Head. BOOM.
by Anonymous12 years ago
yeah america has nice music but they're all those other places like the caribbean, england, india, etc.
by Anonymous12 years ago
ok um, England kicks our ass in music. I'm american, but, a lot of our music kinda blows chunks. Yeah, we've got good stuff. A lot of it, even. I love the eagles, for example. But the brits kick our ass. It's gods way of letting them get back for the revolutionary war, lol. The single band that could sell the argument is Pink Floyd, but to them you can add the beatles, the rolling stones, bowie, radiohead... Yeah the brits WRECK us in music. I mean come on, what have we got up against them? Lady GaGa? Beiber? Not a chance. We have better cars then anyone though, we can use that.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Bieber is Canadian
by Anonymous12 years ago
I've heard The White Stripes and The Strokes, both American bands, be compared to modern-day equivalents of The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. There's also Arcade Fire (Canadian, but as they're based in North America that doesn't mean much), Modest Mouse, Interpol, Nirvana, Spoon, Hole, etc.
Since you were also naming older bands, there's The Doors, The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds in particular), Television, and The Ramones, and more.
Not saying they're necessarily better, but it's not as if it's completely skewed either.
by Anonymous12 years ago
Lady GaGa actually is musically talented... And I'm not just saying that as a fan. She writes her own music and actually has the ability to sing, which qualifies her as a good musician in my opinion.
by Anonymous12 years ago
YOU'RE ALL STUPID BALUGIOUEHIABJEBFAKEJK!!
jk.
You all actually make good points. (What a novel concept for an internet argument)
by Anonymous12 years ago
True
by Anonymous10 years ago
Oh yeah, Rebecca Black is WAY better than Iron Maiden, Bullet For My Valentine, You Me At Six, Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon
by Anonymous10 years ago
"better" is relative and depends on your personal preferences.
by Anonymous10 years ago
All a matter of opinion. and the time period is unspecific. In the sixties, we had The Beatles. In the eighties, we had Queen. Those two bands alone are universilly recognised to be better than any possible effort on Americas part
by Anonymous10 years ago
yup

Robert plant.... nuff said

I live in America, and I don't like the music here. The symponic/power metal scene is much bigger and better in Europe, and in my opinion that is by far the most epic music.
