+538 Whoever came up with the phrase "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" didn't know what the hell they were talking about, amirite?

He never said it was true for everyone, just for himself.

It's completely true in a literal sense. I dare you to physically injure someone with words.

Words causing people to hate themselves leading to self-harm and suicide. I think that's pretty harmful.

In that case, the person hurt their self, not the words. I didn't say "harm", I said physically injure. The point is, words cannot physically injure someone.

Sometimes offensive words can cause your chest to physically ache. Obviously not like a bruise or a wound kind of thing, just a different kind of pain.

True, but I still don't like this post. There's another saying I really like: "Don't judge me by your lame ass and I won't judge you by mine." Essentially, it's saying not to judge others and what they do or say based upon yourself. To say that whoever came up with the phrase mentioned had no clue what they are talking about is absurd. Just because some people can't handle hurtful words doesn't make the phrase invalid. Personally, sticks and stones is a wonderful phrase for me. I have a very thick skin, and there is literally nothing a person can do short of physically attacking me that would hurt me. Words only hold as much power as you give them.

y thank you Jen. And Mike_Hawk, words do cause a different sort of pain that being hit. And oftentimes pain from words lasts a hell of a lot longer.
