How old are you? I personally find it unusual because 90% of people I know have at least tried it, mainly because its much easier to get hold of than alcohol for under 18s.

Have you been to a public school, recently? Throughout all four years of High School, I don't think I've ever been in a single class that I couldn't have found a connection to buy marijuana from.

Alcohol is legal and has regulations, making it difficult to get for someone who doesn't meet the criteria to purchase it. Illicit substances have no regulations, meaning anyone at all can purchase it. Just another argument for legalizing drugs.

I don't get why people voted down Emaphina's comment. She was answering a question. For Mike_Hawk I get it if you disagree that drugs should be legal. But he raised a valid point. Illicit substance are much easier to come by if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone.

Oh that's fine. By all means wait. I was almost 19 the first time I tried it. But there's no reason to be scared of the drug. There has never been a case of something bad happening to someone because they smoked it other than them getting arrested. So if you are curious but want to wait, I say wait. But I guarantee you a good time.

Don't overdo it your first few times. I've only ever smoked with super stoners who have no sense of normality, so I was a bit in over my head. Just stay calm and enjoy some really calm music. You'll be fine!

Psychedelics are a whole different beast! I've been using cannabis and DXM for almost two years now, and I'm still a bit apprehensive about any psychedelics.

When it comes to drugs, remember a few key things: People are idiots and facts don't change. Someone who gets in to something without knowing what they're doing will often have a bad time. Don't let that scare you. I met a kid who claimed to have smoked shrooms. I don't discount it ENTIRELY, but the fact remains that the active compounds, psilocin and psilocybin, are destroyed at a temperature far below a temperature necessary for combustion to occur. Look up facts, don't take people's word on it. Don't even take MY word on it.

"People are idiots and facts don't change." Fantastic.

If you go in to Psychedelics without ever having smoked marijuana you're probably going to have a terrible time...at first. But Psychedelics tend to last a while so if you're of sound mind you're realise that nothing is actually abnormal, you're just high, and then you can enjoy it.

First of all I recommend LSD of Shrooms any day. The high is much more stable and it's much more a self exploring experience. LSD does incredible things for your perception. People who claim to have had bad trips on LSD will almost always have some part of their story say something like, "So I took 10 hits" or "So I was with some random people" or "So I looked in a mirror" Don't do any of that. Be sure you are with people you are incredibly comfortable with, have one person be sober, and just relax. Play some music, and explore your mind. The visuals aspects of taking one hit of LSD are absolutely minimal. It's important to note that LSD is not a hallucinogenic. It is a Psychedelic. And there is a serious difference.

But Mike is right. You have to do your own research and knowledge yourself in to being prepared for the trip.

WHy not look in a mirror? is it the same reason you don't do that in a dream?

And what is the difference between a hallucinogenic and a psychedelic?

Yes, you do eat shrooms. That's why I included the anecdote about this kid smoking them. People don't always know what they are talking about. Personally, I'd rather make a tea with shrooms. The mushroom matter itself is known to cause gastrointestinal distress in some people. Fortunately, the alkaloids are soluble in water, so you chop up the shrooms and heat them up in water. Boom, tea.

Experience is another important part. I was never intoxicated at all before I tried cannabis. When I finally did, it blew my mind all over the place because I had never experienced my reality being changed before. I still can't imagine what tripping on a psychedelic would be like, but I am a bit more prepared because I know what it is like to be have my reality altered. Personally, I found it to be a useful exercise to get higher than I'm usually comfortable with and practice simply accepting my situation. These drugs affect your neurotransmitters and receptors directly, there is no way you're going to overpower them if you do get uncomfortable. Acceptance is vital.

I have heard about the mirror thing as well, but I don't fully understand it/never looked in to it. I can tell you that it's VER...

Y weird to look at yourself while intoxicated.

The difference between psychedelics and true hallucinogens are what you see. Psychedelics don't add anything, they just alter your perception of it. All of the talk about seeing pink elephants and other objects aren't true. Seeing walls breathe and such are true, however. If it's not there, you won't see it. What is there will look really weird, though.

Like I said LSD is a very Self Exploring experience. Typically when people take it they don't speak for the first 4 hours or so. This is because the drug causes them to reach in to their subconscious and think about themselves. An example of this is when LSD was used to cure alcoholism. They would administer these hard core alcoholics a single does and they would come out of it and never drink again. What happens is the user takes a journey through their mind. They begin to think about all the people they have hurt, and all the harm they have down. I promise you that the first time you do LSD you will be a different person when you come out. LSD forces you to face your inner faults. This is why you shouldn't look in a mirror.
1. Because there are still some visual effects and a lot of people don't enjoy seeing their face warped.
2. Because if you have a physical appearance you're not okay with you are going to see that more than you have ever seen it before. It will probably appear to get worse and worse and it will be all you can think about or pay attention to. Just...don't do it.

The difference between Psychedelics and Hallucinogenics is Hallucinations. On Psychedelics you will never see something that isn't already there. Your world will be a bit distorted, but you wont just look up an see a Unicorn. That doesn't happen. If you dissociate the religious connotation from the word, Psychedelics are much more "spiritual"

Scientist and Mike - thanks so much for all the information! I feel like this is a pretty good place for me to start with my own research about these drugs and their effects. LSD sounds pretty cool but I don't think my fourteen year old body could handle that at all at the moment. I guess I'll file that away to the back of my head for now. Shrooms still sound a little scary, but I might give them a try if I get my hands on them in college. Quick question: are both illegal?

You're too much, Walrus!

Mchalla, WOW. I didn't think you were that young. I'd definitely put these things off for a few years. I didn't even try cannabis until I was 17, and I think that's even a bit young. Unfortunately, yes. Everything mentioned thus far is illegal, except DXM. However, I do not suggest trying that. It's nowhere near as safe as anything else discussed, and it has a massive potential for being a terrible experience. I actually had one of the worst nights of my life tripping on DXM. I would stay away from that. They are extremely illegal, and being caught with them is a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Of course, this is completely ridiculous. Hopefully the War on Drugs will end soon. Honestly, though, these things may be difficult to come by. LSD requires access to controlled precursors, a background in green chemistry, and a laboratory to synthesize. People may pass of tabs of blotter paper (what LSD is usually taken on) as LSD, when it is actually newer chemicals such as DOM and DOB. Not much is known about these chemicals. LSD is safe, these may not be. There's no true way to tell them apart from LSD.

This is because the dose being taken is a few millionths of a gram. The drug itself would be almost invisible to the eye. Shrooms don't carry the same risk of being something else, but they aren't generally grown because for some it is a seasonal thing, and for others they're simply not profitable enough. Whereas in High School I had no problem finding dozens of people to buy weed from, I managed not to find a single person who could get shrooms or LSD. In fact, I'm still trying to find shrooms, but the connections simply aren't available.

I guess that's why drugs are labelled as "bad" to me right now.

The stoners my age are the popular, mean, immature, "I don't care about life" kind of kids. That's probably why drugs intimidate me so much. All talk of me ever taking these drugs are being put off for much later, don't worry!

Blah, stoners. I try not to have a problem with people, but they certainly don't help the cause of getting drugs legalized. I think there's a time and a place for everything. Personally, I don't like the people that are constantly stoned and think it makes them superior or cooler than anyone else. My ex was a massive pot-head, and it personally bugged the Hell out of me. It was stupidly rare that I'd see her sober, bordering on never, and I really just felt disrespected. That's irrelevant, however.

Another thing I might suggest is Salvia. It's very, very intense. More intense than shrooms or LSD. Still, it's very safe from a physiological standpoint. The biggest attraction to it versus other drugs is that it only lasts for five to 15 minutes. Cannabis can last up to four hours, shrooms can last six to eight, and LSD can last almost 12. Salvia is much more manageable in that you don't have to set a whole day aside.

All drugs listed will not harm you in any way, shape, or form, assuming they are the drug you actually wanted. But the whole lacing weed thing is grossly over estimated. I've never actually heard of anyone getting laced weed. Also a lot of dealers are typically really nice people that started growing for themselves and realised they could make money off it, or they just always have weed and they are willing to sell you some. So don't let the fear of lacing deter you in any way.
For marijuana. Don't worry about it. 2 Hours of high may seem like a lot, but you'll be surprised at how well you can function. The other night I played cards with my mom in her friend while incredibly high and the only "high" thing I did was deal 14 cards instead of 13. She never knew. But I still suggest not having any plans later in the day your first time.
Psychedelics however, especially LSD (can you tell it's my favourite?), can be a life changing experience. If you're going to use Psychedelics set a full day aside for them and maybe even a second day to fully take in what just happened. This are not to be toyed with. But not to be feared either. Respect the drug and it will respect you.

It depends on the person, of course. I consider myself lucky because I seem to get particularly intense effects from cannabis compared to mostly anyone I ever talked to. My eyes get red enough to notice from across a slightly dim room. One day I was feeling like not doing much, so I went to school high, and every single person I talked to could tell I was high before I got three words out. My voice tends to alternate between getting really high, and becoming really low. I get confused really easily and ramble without knowing what I'm even talking about. For these reasons I prefer to get high by myself. I recall two experiences in particular; one of them was when I was laying in my bed at night and listening to my iPod. The climax of one of my favorite songs came, and it felt like my body was slowly exploding, like my essence was expanding and full of energy, and like every bit of my body was rotating in every direction at once. That was incredibly spiritual, and it gave me a lasting feeling of positivity in the Universe. Another time I watched an episode of Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking. I had my mind continuously blown and couldn't move for the entire duration.

Interesting. I too prefer smoking alone but for the opposite reason. mchalla3, in case you couldn't tell by the name I like Science. A LOT. And whenever I get high I love thinking about Quantum Physics, Black Holes, Dark Matter, and everything else we don't understand. Well whenever I'm with people I try to talk about this stuff and they just stare at me with a blank expression on their face. So it's much more comfortable in my head.

Also Mike, what you were talking about isn't at all uncommon. The comfort of laying in your own bed while high can be incredible, especially with music. Have you ever heard of Spice?

I have! I don't really trust it, however. The active compound used to be JWH-018, a complete agonist of the cannabinoid receptor as opposed to THC which is only a partial agonist. As such, it's ten times as potent. While I wouldn't mind trying JWH-018 by itself, I hear the quality control was very shoddy for spice, and it was unknown what the plant material even was. Even moreso, JWH has since been scheduled under the Federal Analogue Act, so the newer preparation of spice contains some new, unknown chemical. I certainly wouldn't smoke any now. Have you?

I went through almost all of February and March high off my **** from that stuff.

1st. And this is the absolute most important. If you have not smoked marijuana do not smoke this! The first time I ever smoked anything it was Spice. It remains to this day the worst experience of my life.
2nd. I wouldn't say it has any immediate health effects. But I stopped 1. Because I had no concept of reality any more. 2. Because I was fearful of long term effect.
3rd. What you described about yourself in bed is the absolute least high I have ever been on Spice. Maybe even a bit less.
4th. When you smoke Spice, especially the new stuff, if you close your eyes while listening to music 1 of 2 things will happen.
-1. You will accept it. You fall back through infinity, your mind will be stretched to breaking point, then break and keep going. You will live and die 1,000's of times per second and your overall concept of reality will not exist. You will likely think you are dead.

~~

-2. You won't accept it. The exact same thing as before will happen but because you rejected it it will be absolutely awful. The entire time you will have just enough of a grasp on reality that you will know something is very very wrong, but not enough to where you will stop and go "****, I'm just way too high" So you spend the entire time thinking that what is going on in your mind is actually happening to you and it is terrifying. This is why so many people have gone to the hospital from it. They don't know what they are getting in to and they have a panic attack.
5. It is not only incredibly possible but incredibly likely that this will happen with your eyes open and no music. Every thing you look at will have absolutely no emotional attachment which will inevitably lead you to the conclusion you are dead.

I once became so "dead" that I started to cry because I thought I had actually killed myself and my mom would come home and see me sitting there but would have no clue that I was dead. (I was fully aware that my body was still completely normal to everyone else. This shit puts you and a whole other realm) So basically I got sad because I thought that there was no possible way that I would ever make it back to my body and live out the rest of my life. And this was after almost a month of HEAVY smoking.

Now you may be wondering, "But Scientist! If it's so crazy why did you smoke it so much?" Good question. Well for one, I love puzzles. (Every Spice has it's own special thing. For example Bloody Mary gives you incredible imagined visions to go along with music.) I loved trying to figure out which ones did what. Sometimes it was kind of tough to figure out. You would know there was a difference in what you were experiencing but you couldn't quite put your finger on it.(And I know that some of this doesn't make much sense but it's really like trying to explain colours to a blind person.) My particular favourite type of Spice was Supernova. Everyone that smokes it agrees that it is the most thought provoking Spice and the one that easiest to lose your reality with. So needless to say it was also the hardest to figure out. The easiest way to figure out a high is to figure out it's shape (Just agree and read on) After that you have to compare what you're experiencing to you best remembered reality version. Then you have to figure out how long you've been high. ("Okay I've been here [the alternate realm] for about 12 centuries, so that's about 2 minutes real world time")

Scientist Scientist

In response to “How old are you? I personally find it unusual...

No ****, it's like that.) Along with some other stuff that would really make no sense if I told you. But anyway after smoking all day (and these highs only last about 15 minutes so that's a lot of smoking) for about 2 weeks I finally nailed it. I had figured out Supernova. After that we had a great relationship together. I could control it, I could slow it down, speed it up, make it any shape I wanted, or let it take over. It was great. So I started watching Avatar: The last Airbender while high and instead of being a kids show it became this super intense war drama. It was awesome. After I finished that series I started House M.D. HOLY SHIT! The character development, the mystery, everything. It was so intense. Every single episode was like a new game of Chess. Anyway I just realised I've gotten way off track here.

There is a lot more I could tell you but I don't want to take up (any more) of the comment space. So if you're interested in personal stories and the places of my mind I have been to just message me.

That honestly sounds pretty terrifying! I'd never try anything if I didn't know what it was. Considering that's not possible with newer spice, I'd never try it. They did have preparations of pure JWH-018 available online, and I may have tried those. I'm down with a drug that's like THC except more potent, however, I'd prefer to stick with things that have been around longer and are more well studied. I would not be able to handle the visions of death as you described, because I would not be able to assure myself that nothing would be happening. My worst experience was my first BIG dose of DXM. I got very over-heated and had some facial edema. Needless to say, it was extremely uncomfortable. On top of that, DXM causes a histamine reaction that feels like chicken-pox, as well as intense nausea. I'm laying in bed feeling extremely hot, nauseous, and with an insane full-body itch that I can't relieve at all. I was full of thoughts that I could not handle 8 hours of this, so I should just kill myself, or that perhaps I actually might die. However, I was able to reassure myself that I was fine with the knowledge that nobody has ever died from pure DXM. I could not reassure myself. . .

In that way with a drug I was unfamiliar with. After a month of heavy smoking? Did you develop any sort of tolerance? It also sounds similar to, yet again, DXM. There are different plateaus with the DXM experience. The highest in particular is plateau Sigma. It is achieved by taking more than one dose in succession, and it is compared to full-blown psychosis. Did you experience anything like that? I will message you, because that sounds interesting, and I am open to anything as for what to expect on any drug.

Ebony: All I know is that it is a naturally occurring psychedelic tryptamine. It can be taken orally, but only with the aid of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor, otherwise the MAO will break it down before it takes effect. More usually by non-tribal people, it is smoked in a crystalline form. It is much different from anything else, as it is a complete detachment from reality. One enters a completely different dimension, and the visual field is almost entirely comprised of fractals. The experience lasts about 30-45 minutes. No harmful side-effects. DMT is generally meant as Dimethyltryptamine, but is occasionally confused with 5-MeO-DMT, which is a related compound.

Check out this link if you have some spare time. It's a page from a book titled Trpytamines I have Known and Loved. It includes synthesis and the authors experiences with it.

Mike: Well I never hallucinated. auditory or visual, but I would certainly associate things with something that it wasn't (see a water bottle and avoid it because it could easily be a spider in disguise) It was much less a visual drug and much more mental. For example (And this happened surprisingly often) I would feel like my legs were completely covered in cement so I would look down and see that they weren't but even then I HAD to touch my legs to make sure there wasn't invincible cement. If I didn't it would scare me that it might possibly just be invisible and I would never be able to move again.

Most of what Mike said is true so I won't go too much in to detail about chemical make up. I've talked about it multiple times on this site so if you search DMT you'll find a lot of information. However it last about 15 to 30 minutes when smoked and also the geometric patterns don't happen to everybody and typically only happens when people's eyes are closed. Some people have very vivid hallucinations. However almost everyone closes their eyes because the hallucinations are too intense. I talked to a guy the other day who has smoked it 5 times. He loves tripping. He takes about 10 hits of LSD every time. He said that he has to close his eyes because he was so uncomfortable and it felt so real. Some of the things he saw in his 30 seconds of open eyes: The roof flew off of his house and he could perfectly see the sky, and he watched his hand turn to rock and crumble to pieces. After that he closed his eyes.

Kind of, but that's quickly changing. Polls have shown that roughly half of all adults in the U.S. and Canada have used pot at some point in their lifetime. Considering how many people probably falsely said they didn't, I'd say it's likely that half of adults have.

It may well be an interesting experience, I wouldn't know, but it's definitely not harmless.

Smoking, drinking alcohol and eating junk food are all harmfull in excess too, and nearly everyone does all three of there things at some point. Weed is the same: don't be a moron and go over the top, and you'll be fine.

@Starlight_dragon, I respect your decision not to try it, and personally, I find stoner logic to be incredibly annoying, but I would like you to consider looking into some other sources rather than a government funded website. I think many people can agree that the government's logic and trustworthiness is often questionable. What I'm trying to say is you need to question your sources, whether it be websites, parents, teachers, stoners, etc.

Ha, citing fox news as a legitimate source. Cute.

Trust me, I'm not down with Fox. It was more a point that anyone can pull a source with any information they want. I failed to mention that, though.

Thank you, StickCaveman.

Let's clear some stuff up first.
1. The government studies that provided harmful results were done on monkeys where they stuck a gas mask on them and pumped in marijuana smoke for minutes on end without stopping. I think we can all agree a lack of oxygen was the primary culprit amongst the health issues there.
2. According to one of the largest unbiased studies ever performed on smoking marijuana the results concluded that there is absolutely no connection between smoking and cancer. http://www.washingtonpost.com/w...052501729.html
3. Smoking is not the only way to get THC in to your system. While it's more complicated I prefer eating it. It works much better, last longer, I don't cough, and doesn't make me smell like pot. But other methods include using a bong and vaporiser. Both of which filter out "the bad stuff". A vaporiser doing it most effectively.
4. Saying it is illegal really holds no ground. I know this isn't a question of if it should be legal but it upsets me enough when people say, "It's illegal therefore it shouldn't be made legal." in those debates. So I figured I'd bring it up.

5. Alcohol has been proven to be a bigger gateway drug. This is especially interesting because weed is illegal. Typically the only reason people go from weed to harder drugs is because they end up associated with gangs, or dealers and just end up getting in to it from peer pressure. It has nothing to do with "Wanting a better high"
6. Smoking cigarettes, which is incredibly legal, ups the chance of cancer 20fold.

And these were all just recreational. I could easily write a 5 page essay, single spaced, about why it should be legal for medical reasons.

Personally, I think a lot of people have tried it. I've tried it. That doesn't mean it's abnormal to have not tried it

Define normal.

I feel like the hype of how prevalent it is can be overdone, at least where I live. If I lived somewhere more liberal it'd be a different story.

I've never tried it, and a lot of my friends haven't either. But I'll be the first to say it's pretty darn normal to have tried it.

I never smoked and personally I think its a waste of time and it smells bad. I don't care if a friend of mine or whatever smokes but don't make pot your whole life, because then you're a loser. :)

I think a lot of people have tried it at some point, but it is by no means abnormal to have never done it

I think pot's commonplace enough it would be normal for anyone to have either tried it or not tried it.

It is normal. But it's also normal if you have.

It's neither normal nor abnormal. It's common enough so that it's not a "weird" behavior, but it's not the normal behavior. A statement like "It's normal that I may, or may not have have ever tried pot" would make sense, but would be pointless.
