+313 When you say 'gay' or 'retarded', you don't actually mean "Homosexual" or "mentally disabled', ur generation has changed the exact meaning of the words and you don't mean it to be offensive, amirite?

Oh, and before people call me out for being insensitive to people who are actually mentally challenged, I have a twin brother with down syndrome. Yeah, I know what I'm talking about.

this is true.. gay used to mean happy, then it got switched to homosexual. and now we are going to change it so in the dictionary it will state. Gay: something that is bad or disliked

Your intent is irrelevant - you know it will offend people and you say it anyway. You apparently do not care if your vernacular is hurtful to others - so you must not find these peoples' feelings important. In light of this, I believe them to be quite justified in being offended.

Well, when somebody is called gay or retarded, as in stupid, that's still offensive, maybe or maybe not to homosexual or mentally challenged people, but the person that is referred to as gay or retarded.

Would you ever say those phrases in front of someone who was either gay or retarded? No. That gives you a hint that it IS still offensive. This stance perpetuates ignorance.

I don't understand why calling someone who is gay gay? i'm fat and black and gay. i'm all those things therefore it's only saying someone is what they are. most gay people say things are gay A LOT more.

i found this much harder to take seriously that you used "ur" instead of "your".

They say that it is politically incorrect to call a mentally challenged person a "retard" and you get criticized for using the word in replacement of stupid or dumb. What use is the word then, if if is inappropriate in all cases? Be smart people.
