+111 You wonder if Santa Claus was named after claustrophobia, or vice versa, because he has to squeeze through tight spaces, amirite?

Actually...Santa Clause is an abbreviation for Saint Nicholas, and claustrophobia comes from the Latin word "claustrum", meaning shut in spaces, and phobia. Sorry to burst your bubble though!

How is Claus short for Nicholas? D:

Nicholas could be pronounced differently with like a different name or something in some other language.

I just looked it up Sinterklaas so it's like Saint and Nicholas squished together. Makes sense. AND IS AWESOME. So you were right. :)

Santa Claus comes from the Eastern European "Sinterklaas" meanting "Saint Nicholas".

No, he doesn't have to squeeze through because he's magical and he can fit in fine.

He actually just has really stretchy arms that can reach down the fire place.
