+421 People who don't live in your country seem to have very untrue beliefs about your country, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know... a lot of people in my country are fat, lazy, stupid, ignorant, and arrogant. I bet you can guess what country I live in : )

by Anonymous 13 years ago

England.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the US?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Uhhh.. Cuba?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Madagascar, I believe.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Guys, they definitely live in Djibouti.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I just think that people make some weird assumptions about other places, when people are very much the same everywhere. Just under different conditions/circumstances.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes and no - it's versions of reality. Like, most people in China don't work in rice fields, but some do. Most people in France don't go around wearing berets and striped shirts, but some do. And, most media shows more "traditional"/stereotypical views of certain countries, mostly because it's percieved to be boring entertainment to show peope in foreign countries who act similar to Americans/general Western countries - even if they somewhat do.

I agree. And I'd also like to point out that the United States is a huge country with a wide variety of MANY different people. Sure, you're going to get a lot of fat and lazy people. I feel that people focus on that a lot more. Although, obesity is just as high in England and Australia and New Zealand. Sure, there are some crazies in America, but we, again, have a huge country and *own* media. I mean we basically dominate media that is shown all around the world, so you're going to see the good and bad of one country. Everyone has fat, lazy, stupid people in their country. They just aren't doing crazy things on TV.

I'd also like to add that I lived in England for quite some time and I found it to be just like America in many aspects. I didn't find anyone there to be nicer, smarter, or fitter than anyone in America. It was the same.

Me and a couple of my friends went to the states on a school trip. We convinced an American that we all live in igloos, ride dog sleds, and have pet polar bears XD

by Anonymous 13 years ago

me and my friend did that back in grade 8 when we went to Boston. we also convinced this girl that we knew jimmy from B.C

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone from Wales is from Merthyr (a mid-Wales valley) according to the BBC :')

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And in America the same could be said about the different states

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah. For instance, not everyone in New York is an insensitive douche.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, and also not everyone in Tennessee(where I live) is a farmer.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not every person in Texas I a cowboy. I don't own a horse, cowboy boots, or plaid shirts

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not everyone and everything in illinois us boring and plain... and our greatest pet peve is when someone who doesnt live there pronounces the s...you dont pronounce the s

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Illinoise. Why you gotta live in such a boring and plain state?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Anonymous):haha like you can do any better, unless you live like in cali or new york, then you have every right to judge

by Anonymous 13 years ago

was only joking :) you said you hate those things, so naturally I had to say them. I live in maryland. it's a damn awesome state.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Anonymous):Maryland,huh...never heard of it. just joking of course ive heard of maryland. sounds just like illinois though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i never really knew what people thought about maryland until now :D it's pretty much a big city with little bits of farmland in between. the farther you get away from baltimore the more farm-y it gets. now if you want the stereotypical boring state, pennsylvania is what you're looking for.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i never knew that. in illinois pretty much everything is centered around chicago or springfield. dont be fooled by the shiny and pretty chicago you may see on tv. in reality, thats only about 25% of it. the rest is dingy and ugly. im lucky i live in a suburb cuz i cant stand the city. also theres alot of farmland and the average american suburb is mostly everwhere.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

sounds a lot like maryland! except i dont think a lot of people find baltimore shiny or pretty haha. it is to me, but of course im from there. but if you find a high murder rate charming, well there's a reason they call it 'charm city' :D i live in the suburbs too but it's mostly just wide stretches of fields instead of farmland.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

chicago is infamous for very high crime rates. most suburbs around here a nice but theres also plenty who are crime infested as well. i dont know if its like that in baltimore or not, but im guessing it is.

So when I say that I live in Africa, what wierd assumptions do you automatically make?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you're black. im not racist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i live in africa too! Where do u live? "so...if you're from africa, why are you white?" "omg karen you can't just ask people why they're white!!!"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I live in south africa :) and you?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

gah! Me too!! I'm a durbs lady :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago
