-265 It's weird to think about how your name now won't always be your name if you're an unmarried female. After you get married, your last name will become your middle name, and what happens to your middle name, amirite?

only if you're female and your maiden name only becomes your second last name if you want it to. your full name is still your middle name.

What? My name is Daniel James Lastname. If I was a woman and got married, my name would become Daniel James OtherLastname and my maiden name would be Lastname.

I'm keeping my middle name and just changing my last name.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most people don't change their middle name.

I think I'd just hyphenate my and my husband's name. I like my last name.

I'm keeping my last name.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is just wrong, you can keep your last name or hyphenate it, and most people don't use their maiden name as their middle name.

Where I'm from the girl keeps her last name.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most people just change their last name, when my mom was married she made her maiden name her middle name, but only because she hated her middle name.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

My mom made her maiden name her middle name only because she didn't have a middle name before.

Knowledge of other cultures fail

In all middle eastern countries (as far as I'm concerned) The women keeps her last name. My mom has a different last name than I do.

Er..wow lol. I didn't have patience to read all of the comments but it's up to the woman and couple how the name changes. It's any way they choose, so they can keep their name and take their husbands or just take their husbands.

I'm never keeping my last name. Especially as my middle name. I'm getting rid of the initials of BS(1st and middle) AND BJ(first and last) as soon as I can...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's what I'm probably going to do. I hate my middle name, and I love my last name

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wow, guys, chill out. This is the way some people do it, and how was the OP supposed to know other people don't do this? Do you go around asking married women whether they changed their middle names? I thought it was standard practice because that's what my mom did.

Your ignorant

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Don't you people understand that if you want to change your name, in any sort of way, its completely your choice? You can do whatever the hell you like. A guy could change their name when they get married if they wanted to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This. There are many options now when a couple gets married, and it's up to the couple to decide between themselves what they want to do with names - whether to keep their own last name, hyphenate, or one partner takes the others (and, yes, a man can take his wife's last name - there's nothing wrong with that). However, I have never heard of anyone changing or losing their middle name.
