+162 If religion is bad because it causes war, then I guess we should consider natural resources bad because that causes war, too, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Resources are necessary, religion isn't. Religion has no practical use, resources do.

Religion is the most important things in life to those who are religious. Which you are not. So good day :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It may be important, but it still has no real use. It doesn't feed the hungry, clothe the cold, build buildings, make technology, or make progress. Not trying to be disrespectful, just saying that religion isn't a helpful thing (in most cases)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

With religion, you don't need any of those things. We care more about sanctity of life than quality of life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Im sorry but that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I cant imagine a homeless, familyless man who just cant cach a break being absolutely 100 percent happy with his life because he is a devout (insert religion of choice)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's not what I mean at all. Yes we all NEED food and other important stuff, but if you were stuck in a desert and there was no food, I would turn to God for help because He is always there for me. I don't want to start a religious debate, I'm just saying food doesn't go above God.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Food most definitely goes above God. If you could give up either one of those things for the rest of your life, 99% of sane people would choose to give up God.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well that's your opinion and I doubt the number is 99%.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Huh? So you don't need food and you don't need clothes or buildings to protect you from extreme weather conditions because you have religion?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Is your religion a cult?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wait, so...as long as you have your religion, you don't need food, clothing, or shelter? Out of curiosity, how are you typing this without using technology, which you "don't need?"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is awesome who ever said that with religion you dont need anything haha thats epic, epic fail that is. But i totally agree with there other guys, im pretty sure we all need food, pretty sure we all need natural gas, and im quite damn sure that people aren't happy with having shit all, i would like to see you go a week without anything but faith haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

He may have taken it a little too far by saying that, but religion isn't ABSOLUTELY USELESS, it does serve a purpose. Though it doesn't help you physically such as food and clothing

by Anonymous 13 years ago

how do you think people lived life without technology? yeah, they still survived. i'm not saying we should all be amish, i'm saying that to people who are religious and really love God, then He should come before any other worldly thing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But the Amish have food and shelter. They aren't just sitting in the middle of a grass plain, praying all day.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(AtheisticMystic):It maintains society, you can't just be so blank and straight forward there. You have to see how nations and cultures have conceived BECAUSE of religion. Though I am atheist I see the important role religion plays in life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It served a purpose in the past. I think now, in our modern society, it's just holding us back.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not really, religion offers a sense of hope to people. If people were to have no hope, this fear of dying would drive many to madness, chaos. of course, that's just what I think about it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

often time hope and faith blind people from what's right in front of them. not hating, just food for thought.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is always greed in mankind, one that never wishes to accept . fear creates religion. They arn't doing it to be good, they just want to save themselves, which is a primordial instinct.BUT with the concept of religion, it helps with controlling and restraining society. That's really what it is all about IMO I guess, sense of hope and controlling a society a little. I mean religion was the basis of morral principal/code :/

Religion gives us awesome holidays. Christmas is absolutely necessary. If there was no Christmas what would they play on the radio after thanksgiving?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True true

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is the smartest thing I have ever heard. You deserve a noble prize.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I guess you could say that words are bad too because they also start wars.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So are politicians.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And living is bad too, cause only people who are alive can cause wars...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No shit.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, hypothetically, a computer could cause a war.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://whywontgodhealamputees.com/ Religious people, read that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why are there so many thumbs up for all the atheist comments? Most of them don't even make sense. The response that while religion may not be useful, it is still one of the most important things for religious people is adequate. There's no need to attack them or accuse them of being in a cult. As for religion not being useful - yeah, where you live, maybe. Because nobody follows religion properly. Where I live religion is what keeps people satisfied. The idea that if they suffer now, they will be rewarded in the afterlife is quite important for some people, as is the idea of God controlling everything, because it gives them hope. Sure, they're poor, but 'just work hard and leave it up to God.' Not to mention the ideals of religion that keep a lot of people from stealing, murdering etc. Admittedly, there are exceptions and I doubt you'd be able to relate, considering nobody cares about that sort of thing in America and all you can think of are the negatives.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

... so, to sum it up, there are good and bad points to everything. Saying religion is completely useless because it doesn't 'build houses' or whatever is as close-minded as saying religion is the most useful thing on Earth, or that all atheists will go to hell.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Err acording to the bible, won't all atheists go to hell?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well technically we could make tons of useful and efficient things INCLUDING FUEL with HEMP, we have the technology to not drain the earth of oil and poison our oceans with it-even end wars over oil. But people care about money too much, and there is a lot of money in oil (and war)-people need to wake up and realize we could move forward and live better. As for the religion thing, im not gonna go there.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People are bad, then. We cause wars all our own.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's stupid to go to war over a fairy tale.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's even more stupid to have a war over imaginary weapons of mass destruction.
