So you're saying that all pure research science should be scrapped? That we shouldn't pursue things just out of curiosity? That everything has to have a practical application that we can immediately see? That all science should just be R&D?I think that would be a very sad day.

Unfortunately that undermines the very act of research. Science is questioning things. How will we know what things to question in order to make progress until we've asked them? Most important inventions and discoveries were in part due to accident.

But "Life's great mysteries" can tell us where we came from, which leads right to where we're going. If you don't think that's important, I don't know what to tell you.
