CLEAN water is blue.
by Anonymous13 years ago
the article said that it apears blue because of particles in it or something.

In Greece, the Mediterranean, water is naturally blue.

Sea water is blue. You can't tell when you're in the water, but standing on the beach looking out, it's blue.

Many artists paint what they see. They see blue water, whether caused by a reflection or particles or bla bla bla, and they then paint blue water. They're artists, not scientists. Some may be though haha. And some photographers even take pictures of water appearing to be blue. It's all about appearances. And then of course there a many paintings of clear water, abstract water and even polluted water.
I don't think this is the point of the post though. I shouldn't be on amirite this early.
Sorry.

But it is in painting because it reflects off the sky.

Well flowers dont have faces and you dont see clocks melting everyday. The best art is the art that doesn't make sense in the real world (even if blue water in some cases does). That's what makes art beautiful. You can create ANYTHING.
by Anonymous13 years ago
True, but the point of my post wasn't "all art should be scientifically accurate!!!" :]
by Anonymous13 years ago
what about surrealism?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I totally agree that art is beautiful in the artist's liberty to create whatever he/she imagines, and that even surrealism and weirdness can speak volumes about the world as we know it. BUT the phrase "contrary to many works of art" doesn't mean this post is a critique on art.

yeah, yeah, I get what you're saying. Water can be blue in some cases, though.
