Ugh I hate iPods (I have a gen 2 shuffle) and iTunes is so annoying, I use and like winamp, it's much better. All the unnecessary stuff they put on there so nothing gets stolen gets on top of my nerves....

I'd say it's one of the best, (gen 1 and 2) considering it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Mine lasted 4 years.. Pretty boss if you ask me.

Well I really don't need anything big or fancy, I could afford to buy a new mp3 player that plays all the video and stuff, I mean I gave one for my friend's birthday just a couple of weeks ago (not an iPod). For me though, I like something the size of the shuffle, because it's pretty simple. I do what ever I want with it (like working out) and I don't have to worry about dropping and breaking it. And it doesn't need that many accessories. @949812 (cazhaztoez): Yeah I've had mine about the same as yours, I got it when it first came out and it didn't have all the coloured options. It's nice and all, but I can't add/remove songs where I want to. It doesn't work with linux and when I changed my computer, I lost all the songs in my library.... (Which I can always get back, but is a bitch)

I don't think that's what they meant. There can be people who are different because they really just like different stuff, and that's cool; and then there are people who try to defend their individualities by making a point of not conforming (when they actually conform), ultimately living under some illusion that they're more special than they are and even sacrificing some degree of their individuality - even if they were pretty unique in the first place. It's just annoying to watch someone live under some grandiose illusion. That being said, I didn't even read the original post before I disagreed; I have this thing where bad grammar just ruins legitimate arguments for me.

Yeah, but op still has a point. I mean look at the shuffle, it probably costs twice as any other mp3 player, but doesn't even have all the functions, such as letting you see what song you're playing.... iPod didn't revolutionize portable music, it just industrialized it.

The iPod wasn't the first mp3 player, but it was first to try and organize and maintain your music for you (I think). By creating iTunes they can manage what you do with YOUR iPod, where as other companies sell you their product and let you do as you please with it, for the iPod you have to get iTunes to get and remove music from it.

You don't have to use iTunes for your iPod. Also, the shuffle was made simply for playing shuffled songs, and not much else. If you want an option for something more, iPod has that. The thing I love about the iPods I've had are that they last forever. I've got an iPod I got in 2003 that still works. It's been dropped, cracked open, dunked in sand, even washed and dried and still works the same. Maybe it's more scratched up, but it works. I've had three or four other MP3 players before that lasted about a year each. Quality is the main difference for me.

Yes I know, I've had mine for 5 years now, but I haven't even dropped mine before, I take care of it perfectly and I have a problem with the charger every couple of month. Also, I'm sure that this doesn't apply only to the shuffle, because iTunes is iTunes is iTunes no matter which iPod you have. It's a little more restrictive with the songs you have and can play than a normal mp3 player. I've had to wipe my iPod clear several times, because it said it was "corrupt" but I always make sure to get clean songs with no bugs or anything, I've no idea how it could have been corrupted. Also, I don't think it allows you to back up the music on your iPod, (in case you have to erase it) you have to go back and download each song one by one.

You can actually backup your music, if you use your iPod like a USB or mini-hard drive (I've done this to move music from a friend's computer to mine). I've never had any real problems like that, though. Sometimes my iPod has frozen (only my really old ones [one from 2003 one from 2005]) but I've just restarted it. Anyway, I think the perks outweigh the negatives. I actually LIKE iTunes and don't use different computers for my music anyway (as I tend to like it all in one place). As for the "corrupt" thing, I have yet to see that. I've had so many charger cords over the years simply obtaining them magically it seems so I've never had any issues with charging. However, anything with a rechargeable battery will need battery replacement eventually (laptops, MP3 players, even rechargeable batteries need to be replaced once in a while). So maybe that's the issue? But I think Apple will replace the battery for free (or they used to).

I mean I guess you're right... the pros do outweigh the cons, it's just that I'm broke and I'm like, I need to get another charger? What the fhaack. And I think the corrupt issues come when you buy one of the generic chargers, because they discontinued the gen 2 shuffle and that's the only option. Also you can't back up your music in the hard drive haha, when the iPod is "corrupt" you have to wipe the whole thing, including the drive. But I mean it's all small potatoes I guess.

I like ipods, but zunes are pretty cool too! the music software is very "pretty" easy to use, and if u have the zune pass, u get unlimited songs, the whole layout is much nicer of a zune, but then again, ipods are getting pretty cool!
