-226 It's kind of annoying that some people consider chivalry 'respectful'. I mean, how is treating a girl like they did back when women were 'the second sex' any kind of respect? amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Because, women had less rights, but were treated to a higher regard. Men held open doors, always acted respectful and proper around ladies, and defended their women. I can't imagine a girl wanting a guy slamming the door in her face, picking his nose and farting around her, and when someone calls her a tramp or something him laughing along with the rest. That's like saying...wait...I can't even compare that to anything because of the mass amounts of horrific stupidity is involved in that statement. I'm sorry. I'm a bit mad this evening. This was not meant as an offense toward you, more toward this idea. (That seems to be spreading.)

I'm not saying any women would want to be treated like that. I'm saying, we should treat all people with respect, and not treat girls like they're incapable of carrying their own luggage.

Also, what IS a tramp anyway?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Someone who puts out a lot, synonym of slut, but sounds more "nice."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Can you say "feminist"?

i read that in a gay Mr. Fabulous! voice for some reason. haha.

The only way I could understand where you're coming from is if he was somehow being condescending about it. If not, just fucking say thank you and offer to buy him lunch or something. There. Even Stevens.

Here's a thought: Let's all treat each other with equal respect and niceness!

I suppose it's better than treating them like property, because that's all they were (and in some places still are).

If a guy opens a door for me, I'm flattered. If a girl opens the door for me, I'm flattered. I know I'd hold open the door for anyone, regardless of their age or gender. I don't like it when some women take that the wrong way. Being polite is not a sin. It's not the end of the world if a guy is polite to you and treats you with respect. On the same note, it's okay if a guy doesn't hold open the door for you either. Maybe they don't have the time. It's not a thing of disrespect, it's a matter of just having some basic human kindness.

The guys I've talked to have said that they love to take care of their woman, or just women in general. It makes them feel "maniler" and like they're doing something good. But I do think that it should be both ways; guys like getting taken care of, too.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, but in different ways, ffor example, being a guy I would not like beeing taken care of by my woman carrying something heavy for me or fighting off some guy who is beating the crap out of me, and I would enjoy being fed a homecooked meal, or had my laundry done.

And that my friends is why chivalry is dead!

When a guy opens a door for me I thank him, just like I would if a girl did. I also open the door for the people behind me if I get to it first regardless of gender. But it does annoy me when a guy pushes past me to open the door for me (I still thank him not to be rude but it's totally unnecessary) or when a guy refuses to walk through the door because I've opened it for him and insists I go first, or when they act like it's a huge deal that they're being such a gentleman just because opened the door for me instead of it being something that you do because you respect people in general not just because they have tits// end rant.

No wait I've got more to rant about. It annoys me when girls think that the door should be opened for them by guys just because they're girls or when they yell at a guy for opening the door for them when he's just being nice. Ok I think I'm done now, and the same kind of thing goes for all other acts of "chivalry".
