+401 Suicide doesn't make any sense; it's like deciding to turn off a movie you liked because of one crappy scene. But the difference is, when you stop a movie, you can just choose another, or do something else. With suicide, you can't say, "Well, there goes that life. Let me have a second go." You threw away your only chance, the only thing you had, amirite?

I highly doubt one single event leads a person to commit suicide. More likely, an individual goes through several painful that events that lead to depression and ultimately the end of their life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That length of time could equate to a scene in a movie. My point still stands.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You also make it seem like the individual is mentally stable and able to make rational decision making. Depression is a disease that takes control of the mind.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I never said anyone's sane. I'm just saying it should never have looked like a logical choice to anyone ever.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, their logic is skewed because their mind is diseased.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not all people who commit suicide are depressed

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What DanielJames said is true. Those who try and/or succeed to commit suicide do so because they feel that there is no way out of their pain. Their mind is so twisted that they simply CANNOT see the light at the end of the tunnel. It would be like asking a blind person to see the light - they simply cannot do it on their own. They need a guide to say "25 more feet", "10 more feet", and so on. Likewise, those who are depressed to the point of suicide, they need someone else to help them cope with the pain. The trouble is that they do not think anyone else can help them (and that death is the only way to end the pain) so therefore, they do not often times speak up. Those who are suicidal cannot really be expected to think rationally. It's difficult for us to understand, but they have a mental blindfold on and they simply cannot see the light.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sometimes, there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes, you end up at a dead-end (no run intended)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is ALWAYS a light. Sometimes, it may be further away, but it's always there. Even if you have to turn around to go to back to when you were once in the light (instead of going forward), there is a light one way or another. If you can't see that, that's when you need to talk to someone - anyone. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What if you are stuck between a dead end and a landslide in a limestone tunnel? I am fine. Just playing the devil's advocate. Thanks though. :)

I can't understand why someone would defend suicide.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Until you've been in a position when death seems like the only possible way out, you probably won't ever know why someone would defend sucide. Some fates are just a lot worse than death.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Psht, suicide is when you've seen many, many awful movies, and they just keep releasing worse ones based on the older ones you saw, and you're watching them until you're just too sick of them to continue and you'd rather not watch any.

what i was gonna say

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Bit morbid, Rocky. wary True, but morbid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its nothing like that. at all. i guess you just have to have been close to committing suicide to truly get it. its like its the only salvation left, like its the only way you could possibly ever feel happy again. i've been there so i get it, i've held the knife to my throat, i've tied the nose. but i was able to walk away which i am grateful for but sometimes i still feel like its my only option.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's LIKE that, but for no reason. That way of viewing death as the "way out" is what I'm saying doesn't make sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe they don't like the movie...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe they're watching the last airbender

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wait did you just reply to yourself?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Busted

I think suicide is a viable option if the bad outweigh all of the possible good. I know what you mean when you say life is the only thing you have, and there's lots of possibilities for good. Think about this possible scenario though: Imagine a person. They've been homeless their entire life. They get food and water only a couple times a week. They have no education. Their entire family has been brutally murdered. They have no friends. They get beaten every day. They always have some sort of disease that makes them nearly unable to do anything. The best thing that ever happened in their life was when they didn't get beaten one day. They spend half the day crying and half the day suffering from illness and hunger while lying in their own excrement. Is it worth it, for them, to keep living? An honest "yes" to that question would honestly be the most amazing thing I have ever heard. As in, I would be blown away if anyone thinks that person would be happier and better off living.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I completely agree. It pisses me off that it's considered morally wrong to support suicide. I'm not saying if you have a good life kill yourself, I'm saying that if the suffering is unbearable no matter what you try that you should have the right to end it all without anyone criticizing your decision. It's hard for people that haven't been involved with suicide or depression to understand.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I disagree. The movie could've just sucked the entire way through. Like sitting through a Disney Channel movie.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The whole point of suicide is that you can't bare your life (or in this case, movie) anymore. Living just keeps on giving you more pain and even with all the medications and psychiatrists it still seems as if the best choice would left would be just to die. I don't think someone must suffer because some people don't think it's ethical to take your own life. It's almost satanic that you want people to suffer for a long period of time when all they want to do is just have one last day and then to end it all. In the end, its their choice and you don't have the authority to put it down. I don't think anyone does

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, you're inevitably going to die, so it can be argued that it doesn't matter whether you kill yourself now or live until you're 93.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, but there are people who have permanent painful diseases...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

how do you know that we dont have other lives?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Like I said to Ant, I don't, but I think it's unlikely...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think you can really say it doesn't make sense until you've been suicidal. It's something you have to experience to truly understand.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There is reincarnation...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Instead of switching off a movie, I would liken suicide to turning the television off all together.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone keeps saying that 'You can't understand suicide unless you've been close to it or nearly done it...' Not really. It's hard to comprehend why people would kill themselves, yes, when Human's preservation instinct is so strong. But it does happen. Sure, we can never read their minds and know the exact train of thought that lead them there, but if you look at their circumstances, sometimes you can realize , that perhaps they truly did believe it was their only , and best, option.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This reminds of the song "Why" by Rascal Flatts...I would be devastated if any of my family or friends committed suicide :'(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everybody is focusing on the victim of depression, but suicide effects more than one person. I thinks it completely selfish to commit suicide because you think your helping yourself and/or others. But friends and family are affected also and its as if the person who is commiting suicide doesn't even consider other

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think it's more selfish to expect someone to live for your own sake.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It makes sense as soon as you've experienced depression. This post is clearly from an optimist's perspective. Speaking for myself, during a time when I was very depressed I considered suicide because I hated myself so much. I couldn't handle just being myself because I despised everything about myself. My life wasn't too happy then either, and I knew my insecurities were only adding to it, which made me hate myself even more. Anyway, if you can just try to imagine feeling that, you can understand why someone would want to commit suicide.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no matter how bad my life would get, i would never commit suicide. ever. because there's always something you could live for, and i couldn't imagine the pain i'd be putting my loved ones through (talking bout my own life, not anyone else's)
