+553 Americans:you hate it when other countries say we suck. But then again, why is everyone coming to our country for a better life? amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They come here because they are willing to work menial jobs at a lesser pay than American citizens.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I never understood that. Why don't they become citizens? Sure, the process is tricky and difficult, but it has a lot of benefits.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They don't want to pay taxes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

newsflash: they still pay taxes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Illegal immigrants do not pay taxes. Sales tax, yes. Taxes to the IRS, no.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you do realize that there is a wealth of categories between being illegal and being a citizen?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Of course. I saw the words "menial jobs" and "lesser pay" and assumed illegal immigrant. Most of the people I know with green cards or Visas have high paying jobs.

If our schools are so much worse then those in China, Korea etc then why does my school have so many Chinese and Korean exchange students?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not so much the schools as it is the pressure to do well in school. The Asian culture generally puts a lot more focus on education than most other parts of the world, which is why they succeed in academics. So neither education system is necessarily better than the other.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah I know, it's just frustrating that everyone thinks American schools are terrible when we have a lot of asians kids who leave behind their families to get an education here. While not all American schools are so great (some are downright awful ones) we do have some good schools with good teachers.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Mhmm. I used to think American schools were terrible until I experienced schools in New Zealand, Australia and Canada hahaha. I think it's safe to say that my opinion has been changed. And a lot of Asian families come to America for a better way of life. Sure, the education system in most Asian countries is superior to most, but the standard of living in those same countries is much lower than in America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The education system in many Asian countries is cut-throat and only the super geniuses can succeed. I think many asian kids come here so that can get into a top college.

I'm not from America and I'm not going to America for a better life. I have a very nice life in the country I live in now. I don't even think I'm going to ever visit America, because I'm just not interested.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not from America either but I've traveled there and there is alot of beautiful states. One of the states, Wyoming, is just breathtaking.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wyoming? Lol. Yellowstone is the only thing in Wyoming that's remotely beautiful. Everything else is horrendous.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@986270 (Anonymous): I was just explaining that I, personally, didn't think I would ever go to America for "a better life" like the OP is saying "everyone" does. I'm sure there are other people interested in going there but just not me. I'm sorry if that's such a crime.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well that is just one of the biggest mistakes you could make. No one is asking you to come and live in America, but it's a beautiful country. New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston. There are so many great cities, especially NYC. There are so many beautiful beaches, but if you are more of a winter person there are so many mountains to ski and snowboard on. I know I'm sounding like a brochure, but America is a wonderful country and the idea that a person should be so brainwashed into thinking America is uninteresting is just terrible.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How is not coming to America a mistake? Also, you act like the United States is the only country in the world with beaches, mountains, and beautiful sites.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You sound like a bigot. America isn't the most beautiful country, FYI.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

U just jelly

by Anonymous 13 years ago

because they're jealous :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think most kids would agree with me, in america, its the teachers we get that make the difference. Some teachers just make you WANT to learn and excel. I think if more teachers were like that the education in this country wouldnt suck so hard

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A better life doesn't only mean education there is also heath care, Gangs and all so just because they have good education it doesn't mean they have good heath care like Canada

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Canada has gangs too. Gangs certainly do not run rampant like they used to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I have good health care. Just because it's not universal doesn't mean it's bad. And there are gangs everywhere in the world.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well we hear more about your gangs then ours. I have never seen on the news anything about gangs. And at least we can walk around at night without being scared of being kidnap or sleep with out our doors locked. That is why I live in Canada and not the states because you have a feeling of safeness here.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, there are gangs in America, but they aren't everywhere! There are parts of this country where there aren't gangs, just as in Canada. America isn't all one big city where everything is the same all over!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's a major generalization because I live in south Carolina and I feel safe every single night. Are you under this impression that everyone in America is scared for their lives on a daily basis?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I could sleep without my door locked if I wanted, but that's dangerous in ANY country. I live in a nice neighborhood with a lot of houses, so if someone was to break in, someone would hear. I have 3 loud dogs, and 2 would be willing to attack an intruder. So, sure, I could sleep with the doors unlocked, but what benefits would you get from that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't know if you read the news, but there are plenty of break ins, missing persons, rapes, and assaults in Canada. There were six random swarmings in a week in my city. You're terribly naive if you think Canada is a safe little happy country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

this country does suck. we're spoiled rotten and have everything on our fingertips. so no, it does not bother me when other countrys have an opinion that this country sucks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're right,we are very spoiled. I mean, we have a wonderful economy, a productive government, are fighting two necessary wars, and, the cherry on top, have Sarah Palin.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I caught the sarcasm.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Right at Sarah Palin... yeah I'm slow.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This made me giggle xD There are definitely worse places to be than the US... but especially if you live in a small town in the bible belt like me, there are better places too. *shrug*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Bible belt? Your life sucks :(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

we're so spoiled we don't even know that everyday things like water and food are luxuries in some countrys.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Believe it or not, most Americans are NOT ignorant about other countries' problems.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Your punctuation is not making us Americans look any smarter...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't say smarter.I said better...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No one I know goes to America for a better life... They all go to Australia, New Zealand or England. O.O

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hey! we are the 10th happiest state according to Yahoo! :D But New Zealand, Australia, and Canada are ahead of us... /x

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yahoo, pshh. "/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow.. just realized I put state not country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago
