+519 A teacher should never yell at their students. That behavior shows lack of patience and experience, and instead of gaining the students' respect, they often lose it, amirite?

I have one teacher that told us we were her worst class in 15 years of teaching and she's cried in front of us 3 times... It's rather unprofessional. :

A few years ago, the eight grade's teacher's pants fell down. The whole class laughed and she ran out of the school crying.

that is such a random comment

It kinda depends though. I've yelled before in class, and the kids were so shocked because I never yell, that they immediately responded well. If you don't do it often, they know you're REALLY mad when you do, and therefore will listen. But if you yell all the time, students lose all respect for you.

Yeah, some things are big enough to yell over, but when a teacher loses control over tiny things, I feel an urge to laugh rather than cower. :P

I know what you mean. It can just be really tough when your kids simply won't listen and you just don't know what to do. It takes a while to figure out a class and what works best.

Oh I know. My mom was a teacher, and I've heard stories d

by Anonymous 13 years ago

My mom was a teacher too, and I'm a substitute sometimes. I've had a few classes where I'm with them for about a week at a time. It's not easy. I've gained a whole new respect for what my mom does. But I do well, I think, because the kids seem to like me, and they keep calling me back in!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's good! Yeah, teaching is a hella hard job, and my mom does it so naturally. I couldn't teach to save my life.

I'm scared to do my Education degree because I don't think I'll ever be as amazing as my mom haha.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh I'm sure you'll do fine. You probably inherited an aptitude. :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha I hope! It's gunna take me forever though. Gotta finish this degree, do the two year Education thing. Then I plan to work for a few years, then go back and get my MA and then PhD.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That sounds like a plan. It probably won't feel as long and difficult because you're splitting it up. That's a good idea.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True. My original plan was to do all three degrees and be a professor, which I still may do. But I think I should give teaching a legitimate try. I think I'd be good at it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You should totally go for it! :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'll do it! I'm almost done this degree!

I would agree if i've never seen it in action. once my class was out of control, and the teacher yelled and had a murder face on. you can bet the class went silent. it confirms that they are not there to be your buddy, and a sign of leadership. obviously, some teachers cant pull it off. but those who can, should use it to their advantage.

I'm telling this to my teacher tomorrow.

My band teacher throws tennis balls at us if we screw up, and this one time my foreign language teacher threw a text book at this girls head. Good times...

Someone was trying to sneak out of the class before the bell rang one day so the sub at the time hit him in the face with a pen and made him bleed. He stopped subbing after that.

My 4th grade teacher flipped over a table once. It was terrifying, but kinda funny at the same time. She didn't usually get mad.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Weeeeeell... If the class is seriously misbehaving, it's understandable to flip out...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If you lose control in front of a group of teenagers, they're gonna try to set you off again for fun.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Depends on how scary you get. I had a nice, laid-back teacher last year, but once, she FLIPPED OUT. No one messed with her again.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I once had a teacher at my Saturday school (my Asian parents made me go every Saturday for 11 years) who literally flipped out every day. It wasn't intimidating in the first place, and by the end of the year my mates would just do stuff to piss her off for fun. I miss those days.
