Accents aren't noticeable in songs because singing is an accent of its own, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Not disagreeing to be an arsehole, but I can usually pick the accent of a singer.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah, so can I actually. But there are still those many songs that have left you surprised after hearing the singer's speaking voice, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah, there are.
There have some that left me surprised when I heard interviews, not because of accent, but because most of their songs were in a higher or lower voice than their normal one.
And, of course, hearing a song from 30 years ago, and a interview from last year or something, and the difference.

Are you saying you've NEVER misinterpreted a singer's accent, not once? Well I'm speaking for the not-so-clever public when I say it happens very much in certain genres, and you're just a party pooper.
by Anonymous13 years ago
I didn't say that.
You said "But there are still those many songs that have left you surprised after hearing the singer's speaking voice, amirite?"
And then I said "Yeah, there are."
So, yes, I was agreeing with you, that there are some that leave me surprised, but most of the time I can pick the accent.

i thought you meant accents in band. like the first half of a note being louder like a pop!!! i was like umm yeah you can. then i read on XDD

Thats not true.. Sometimes you cam pick out the accent and of you can't it is because the artist grew up listening to music made in America and sung by American singers so they have an American accent when they sing...

I can usually pick out the accent especially if it's a strong accent like someone who lived in England their entire life or someone with a deep southern twang.

I both agree and disagree with this post. Sometimes I can distinguish an accent in the singer's voice, but it often does surprise me when they speak in an interview or something. For example, Matt Bellamy, lead singer of Muse, doesn't really sound English when he sings. However, Marcus Mumford, from Mumford & Sons, has a noticeable English accent that shows through even when he sings.

Here's an example. His accent almost completely disappears when he starts singing

I meant accents of people who can actually speak the language, and not read some letters of which they don't even know the meaning.
by Anonymous12 years ago
It doesn't matter if he knows the meaning or not, the point still stands that you can't really hear an accent when he's singing.

Why did you vote NW then? Wasn't that exactly what my post said?

And, I admit I didn't watch more than a few seconds of that video, I just assumed it was a "Ken Lee" thing again, but it turns out his accent hides! Sorry.
