+443 If one has proved themselves all semester with an A, one should be exempt from Final Exams, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's a good point, but then again, a counterargument could be 'if you have an A, you should have no trouble doing well on the final.' I had a teacher that did this. If you got a 95% or higher you didn't have to take it.

a counter to that is that it's a waste of time. If you already know it, you could be spending your time doing something useful.

It's only one day really. Plus, a final is a real test of the material. Sometimes you can get an A in a class but not really have learned anything. Also, by your logic, I could say "If someone can do the homework well, what's the point of having tests in general?" Do you think that someone who can do the homework well shouldn't have to take any tests?

I agree! When I went to school in Mexico for foreign exchange, the way my school did it was like this: There were 3 major tests per class in a semester, not including the final. If your average grade of these three tests was at least a 8.5 (The Mexican grading system is numerical. It would be about a 85%) you didn't have to take the final. It was awesome. The only class I had to take a final in was Mexican History.

At my old high school, if you get a b- or higher on all terms of a class, you're exempt from the final. But only if you're a senior

B- ! You're so lucky. My school does this, but you have to get an B+. And it's for seniors only, too.

Where I go now, the professors do that, if you have a certain grade, you don't have to take the final. And my math teacher drops the lowest test grade, which means if you are satisfied with your overall grade, you can skip out on the final, and since that would be the lowest grade, it's dropped and does not affect the final grade. I loved him. I'm taking him again this semester!

My school exempts us from the final if we have 3 or less excused absences and a decent grade. I've never taken a high school final. (:

my school does this for seniors. but most of them are stupid lazy morons who don't push to get the a's necessary

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's what we do in our schools. If you get A's the whole semester, you get to skip the final exams and get off a couple days before everyone else for Summer.

My school doesn't have exams :D

LIke Nessa said, having the ability to drop an exam from a class is pretty common at college/university.

I'm pretty sure my school does this for seniors, too. But you can only exempt the finals if you get all A's and one B the entire year.

My school does if you get at least an 84% in the class and have missed only 2 excused days a semester (3 days if you're a senior). I still think that you're grade throughout the year is more important than how many days you miss though. I had mono my sophomore year so I missed about a month of school, and I still got A's on everything even though I had to teach myself. I still had to take exams though
