They don't think anything because they don't really exist.

if they don't think anything then they aren't realistic. Characters in books should have thoughts, unless not thinking is part of that character.

Well, my point is, unless the book tells their thoughts, they don't have any.

well, they would have some...you would just be unaware of what they are...because the authors make their people characters like people...and people think...
