-221 Countries that eat cats or dogs have the right idea because it provides food and decreases the number of strays, amirite?

So basically what you're saying here is that we need to start eating homeless people?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wed have to wash them first...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well clearly. What are we, savages?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

True, and I sure wouldn't eat a skinny homeless person, we would have to feed them first

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They probably raise them like we raise cows/chickens. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't eat a stray cow. I doubt they'd eat stray, disease-ridden cats.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, my sister's friend from Tonga would eat strays all the time. If your family has no money for food, are you really going to worry about all those diseases? There are times when you can only focus on the short term.

I think what OP's saying (or at least how I would put it) is that if cats and dogs are food you eat, there's less of a business for pets, and thus less pets to get cast out on the street and spread disease.

But that opens the floodgates for more animal cruelty.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It could very easily lead to massive cat/dog farms made solely for the purpose of consumption. And, as they're already domesticated animals and millions of people have them in their homes, it could very well become socially acceptable to shave Fluffy and roast him for Sunday brunch. Plus, cats are feral animals with a higher tendency for harmful disease.

How is eating a dog or cat any different than eating a cow or chicken? Dogs and cats were not always domesticated, people made them pets. It's only weird to us to eat them because we aren't used to it

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Of course they weren't always domesticated, but the point is that they have been for hundreds of years. People wouldn't just accept cats and dogs as a replacement for beef all of a sudden. Just because it shouldn't be strange in the first place doesn't mean it will be culturally accepted, nor will it be good for the well-being of the animals themselves.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"massive dog/cat farms" isn't cruel, just cause something lives on a farm doesn't mean it's in bad conditions. Some cats and dogs are actually in worse conditions in peoples homes. And of course we aren't gonna just start eating dogs, that's not even the argument.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't say everyone is the world had to accept it, nor that they ever are. You are making it seem like eating them is this horrible, cruel thing to do when other countries have always done it. To them it IS like eating beef. So it really wouldn't be so wrong if it became socially acceptable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hahahha Having mass farms for raising animals to eat is cruelty? Do you eat cows or chickens? If so, you my friend are a hypocrite.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But but but... the cuteness level in those countries goes way down D:

Troll.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It all depends on their culture -.-

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think the only reason people are NW'ing this is because dogs and cats are "cuter".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I find that weird because I think little pigs are cute but I have no problem eating bacon lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There was a south park episode talking about this. There were all these Japanese people slaughtering whales, and everyone was disgusted. The Americans convinced all of them that they should start murdering cows, pigs, and chickens. And the last line, Stans' dad said, "Now they're normal like us"

:(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm perfectly okay with people eating cats and dogs. I would never do it myself, because I find it revolting, but I'm fine with other people doing it. However, if people start killing rare or endangered animals simply to eat them (or other reasons I find inadequate), then I get mad. No one NEEDS to eat that rare Bengal tiger or endangered species of dolphin; meat from farms is just as good. I also don't like whaling.

well im not sure they do it for the stray thing, but yeah it provides food. we cant judge other countries for doing that. its their culture. its not wrong in their eyes.not being like racist or prejudiced or anything, just using this as an example and i could be wrong just demonstrating, but its like when muslims bomb places. they do it becasue its part of their religion ( i think, like i said, could be wrong) are we supposed to tell them its wrong? it is in our eyes. not in theirs.
