by Anonymous 13 years ago

The question is WHICH roosevelt????

by Anonymous 13 years ago

either one, they were both brilliant.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Roosevelt responded with a statement summarizing his rationale for relations with Stalin: "I just have a hunch that Stalin is not that kind of a man. . . . I think that if I give him everything I possibly can and ask for nothing from him in return, noblesse oblige, he won't try to annex anything and will work with me for a world of democracy and peace." Yes. Smart.

Optimistic. Everyone screws up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not everyone screws up by leaving Eastern Europe to a dictator that was pretty famous for his cruelty because he seems like a nice guy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well he did a lot of amazing things In America, even if he did screw over those poor Soviet-run countries.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And somehow that makes it ok? Get your head out of your ass.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

they were the enemy, we didn't care about screwing them.would we care if one of our policied screwed saudi arabia (ally to the Afganis and whatnot) would we not do it? no. war makes thing acceptable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was a war the Americans joined in for the hell of it. It was none of their business, and Eastern Europe had nothing to do with the decision that ruined our lives for almost half a century. The only reason this happened is because Roosevelt was a wimp who thought dictators were doing what they did because they wanted a hug.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

woh. If you're referring to the Cold War, we didn't "join it", it happened. If you're referring to the second world war as I assume you are, we had to join it. We had to fight the Japanese for attacking us at pearl harbor, and in fighting the Japanese we fought Nazi Germany. Not to mention, had we not come and assisted the British and French the entirety of Europe would have fallen to the Third Reich, eventually the globe, there would be not a single Jew left in the world, and everyone would have been screwed. Forever. Do you realize the power the Nazi's had? Contrary to popular "history", the Americans did not make the first functional nuclear weapon; we failed. The Germans did, and didn't use it because Hitler felt that they were too weak, since he was on the verge of having a thermonuclear bomb, you know, the fusion ones with a 250 mile blast radius? We procured this technology during operation paperclip. They had the first jets, too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Or are you referring to our war in the Middle east? Upon re-reading the posts I realize that may have been your target; and on that I agree, the "war on terror" is a bastard war with no purpose other than for George Bush Jr. to show his daddy what he could do. I have to agree with you that we entered Arabia "Just for the hell of it"... If that is what you meant. However, had we attacked in an attempt to drive the Soviets out of their satellite states, global nuclear war would have ensued. Then truly countless, in the most literal definition of the word, would have died.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The war on terror is shit, but i'm only talking about Roosevelt and WW2 here. Hitler was nowhere near as bad as Stalin was. Roosevelt basically gave Stalin Eastern Europe not because it helped anyone in any way, but because he felt Stalin wouldn't do anything bad to it. Stalin started literally laughing in their faces when he realised this happened. America was all bragging about the freedom and democracy he brought to Europe, when it played a major part in dooming half of it. Also, we were sorta allied to you guys at that point, though we didn't really like that. Not that we liked about 50 years of opression and living in fear and poverty. Or the fact that the countries that didn't instantly suck up to the Americans got their civilians bombed later on when "democracy prevailed".

Being a Jew I might debate that hitler was worse, but that's a separate argument I think. The whole thing of us and Stalin was the same as Europe and Hitler it just never went to a real war. It was appeasement. We wanted to keep the Soviets happy so we didn't end up fighting a global thermonuclear war. Besides if we had done things differently there would have been no cold war and therefor no awesome movies about the cold war like "Wargames" >.>

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Stalin was worse than Hitler, but rather than a concentrated amounts of victims focusing certain demographics+usual war victims he spent decades just slowly killing off whoever dared crack a joke in a bar. Not as flashy but more efficient. The difference was that people actually bothered stopping Hitler.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

what if you could combine both of them into one giant president?!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I say we need another George Washington.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Here's what Washington was REALLY like... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqzUI1ihfpk haha

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree we need to find some random rooselvelts. Maybe a new deal in the works?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hell yeah! NEW new deal! Have the government pay folks to do menial labor so that they at least have jobs... A lot of good came from it. Like all the forests in my area were replanted during new deal; It's pretty cool because you're like, out in the woods but the trees are in nice straight rows =P
