+272 It's cool how some people's last names match their profession: Lawyer, Farmer, Booth, Sellers, Shoemacher, etc. Then we have names like Dickinson....things become harder and more awkward to explain, amirite?

That's how last names originated - you either took your profession or your origin as your surname. Examples: If I was a blacksmith my name would be Daniel Smith. If I lived on top of a hill my name would be Daniel Hill.
