Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Considering how little input student council has into what happens at school (that's actually important), it's not like it's going to hurt anyone, like it would if the real president was simply chosen on who was better looking. Though, one guy at my school who's running for sophomore president used the slogan, "He's not attractive, and he's not popular, so he has time for student council!"

All elections are popularity contests

Not at my school. My twin got senior vice President. =) She's not popular. She's just really nice to everyone.

No one runs for asb office at my school. We had to turn the only person who ran for secretary into president because no one ran for prez.

well you have to admit...popularity means greater outreach, which is good in student council.

People at my school aren't even allowed to say what they want to do. They just make posters and give out stickers. It's annoying.

I lost the senior president vote today :(

It's either the biggest losers that win because it's a joke or it's the really popular people.
