When did we start calling techno music 'dubstep', amirite?

Isn't dubstep different though? I though that dubstep was more existing songs turned techno, whereas techno is whole new songs unrelated to existing music. Or is that even close to right?

Electronic music =/= techno. Techno is a subgenre. Dubstep is a subgenre. Breakbeat is a subgenre. Drum and bass is a subgenre.

dubstep, techno, DnB, House, trance, all their subgenres, and tons of other stuff all falls under "electronic". The differences are where and how they originated, for the most part. Dubstep started in England as a way to test the acoustics of venues, then people realized it was awesome. Trance was started when everyone was tripping balls on drugs decades ago. House is somewhere between DnB and techno, and the most popular subgenre right now started in the Netherlands (hence Dutch House). Basically, its all similar but slightly different sound with very different backstory.

Like its been said, no one is calling actual techno "dubstep" dubstep is more of a hard version of techno while house music is more of a light version. I like to think of Skrillex and Deadmau5, both, techno artists and nothing alike because Skrillex is clearly dubstep and Deadmau5 is obviously house. While there is Showtek who's hardstyle got it?

I actually read everyones replies on here and its just helping me out with a music presentation of techno. All I can say is that if it wasn't for techno. Dubstep, House, DnB, and Nitecore wouldn't exists. SOOOOO, for all those that hate techno your just hating what created your music you listen to.
