+144 Research shows that in the USA, raising animals for food generates more GHG emissions than all the cars, planes, ships, trucks and trains in the world combined. MEAT'S NOT GREEN, amirite?

Agriculture leads to dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico due to fertilizers and pesticides.

I think it’s a pretty bad idea to eat it if it is green...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So the human race has to give up meat in order to save the planet. NEVAR!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It may not be green, but it sure is delicious!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Damn, I was gunna say that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...well, hang on, the animals still have to be raised regardless. So going green would result in - idk, killing the animals? That makes sense no. And I should certainly hope the meat isn't green...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Okay, just because Shrek has layers like an onion, that does not mean his meat isn't green

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If it was.. I'd advise you not to eat it. I may not be the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but something tells me that green meat = somethin funky goin down in those pork chops.

Simple solution - CLONE YOUR STEAKS

They are if they're Pretty Patties...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, suck it up, cause I'm eating it anyway.

Its more of a pink... red if you have it very rare

Meat, eggs and dairy production accounts for approximately 80% of the worlds fresh water use, 40% of the worlds land use and 70% of the farming land, 1/3 of fossil fuels(In the US), and 70% of deforestation. Factory farms produce more than 500 million tons of animal waste per year which contaminates rivers and streams. It takes about 10-16 pounds of grains and 5,000 gallons of water to make 1 pound of beef. Eating meat is not sustainable for the environment.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And yet your profile picture is a cow.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So what do you propose we do? Push all animals off the edge of the world so that the temptation is no longer there?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha no. If everyone worked to eat less meat then the demand for meat would go down so the production would too so they would breed less animals for us to eat, which would reduce the global impact. Its not like everyone would simultaneously give up all animal products leaving a bunch of cows and pigs with no where to go.

the bees are dying... that's a more important issue

Krabby patties are made underwater... Clearly they knew something.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well one upside to our destroying the Earth, we also destroy hipsters and vegan retards.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People are slaughtered every day around the world and you care about people eating meat? Fuck you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't really give a damn about animals being killed or being eaten. Seriously, they're animals. I do care about the environment though. It would kind of suck if the all the icecaps melted and my house was underwater.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, because where would the world be without beach houses? No, I see where you're coming from, and yes, it would totally suck to lose everything, but still...

I saw we encourage hunting for food. Not only would it slow down climate change, but it would get rid of all those stupid deer that nobody likes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

...yes, because deer are WAY too overpopulated. There's a reason for a)Hunting season. They're not going to last forever if we over-hunt b)The food chain. They're a part of it. Besides, no amount of hunting could keep up with meet demands

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic when you say that deer are way too overpopulated. The fact is that, at least where I live, there are way too many deer. In the wild, deer face predators like wolves, bears, and bobcats but now that there are suburbs everywhere deer have no natural predators. There are WAY more deer in my county than there were fifty or so years ago and it's kind of a problem. Hunting is by far one of the most environmentally friendly ways of getting meat and more people should do it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

One county is hardly the same as the entire world. In most areas, hunting is limited to keep deer alive as a species. And yes, that was sarcastic.

Really? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/01/AR2010110107194.html http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20081023-SPORTS-810230378 http://reason.com/archives/2001/11/21/north-americas-most-dangerous http://www.chathamjournal.com/weekly/opinion/chatlist/hunting-is-necessary-61228.shtml

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Again, in SOME areas. Besides, hunting would in now way be a permanent solution to the "problem". The problem these days is that so many people look for a short term solution and then forget about what they actually temporarily solved.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not claiming that hunting will end all the worlds problems and save humanity; I'm just saying that it would do a lot of good.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Arguable.
