+269 The national debt is a major issue and needs to be addressed NOW, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're a little late. This could have been said a decade ago.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A decade ago i would've been unable to pronounce debt

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This could have been said 5 decades ago, presidents just decided federal deficit was a problem we could survive with

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was balanced when Clinton left office, from what I can gather.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha no sorry it has been steadily increasing, in the trillions since the 90's $5 trillion in 2000, and most significant increase ive seen is 2009-2010 where it was nearly a $2 trillion increase sorry for all you Obama supporters out there... treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt.htm Notice the .gov so obviously its

credible

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um, that's like blaming Obama for not being able to stop an out of control train, that Bush launched like a missile. No matter who would have become president the train would have continued going. The difference lies in the fact that Obama is actually helping the little people in order to help the country instead of the people who got us in this situation in the first place. Sorry for all those Obama haters out there....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah because handing them money is really helpful, it is actually a waste of money he would be much better off putting his funds towards creating jobs, give a man a fish hell eat for a day, teach him to fish and he can eat the rest of his life

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can say the same thing about the bailout... someone had to get money and better it be the people than the companies. Besides what you're saying is teach a man how to fish in an empty lake, he won't even eat for a day. And saying that the spike happened during Obama's presidency isn't fair, because you're making it look like it's his fault, when really Bush was the one who threw the country from the top of a hill and walked away.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well its not like he could have taken a 3rd term and btw earlier "inflation" would have worked a lot better as a rebuttal, and in the 1930s to 40s presidents cut back on taxes despite the fact it hindered their budget but because more money was available in the economy the cut ended up evening out, and also presidents started the WPA (works progress association) which actually created jobs and reduced unemployment tremendously, and our situation right now is relatively comparable to that of the great depression and these tactics helped the nation rise out of depression (the end of wwii helped tremendously too) but Obama is just wasting money at least bush wasn't increasing taxes and wasting money

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're talking about FDR's New Deal, which didn't work. WWII was the reason America got out of that boat. In addition to that Bush's tax cuts just ended. AND Obama's tax raises probably won't affect you, there's not a lot of people who make above $250,000. Anyways due to the republicans, now even they get a tax break, even if they don't need it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

my family happens to be one which is above the 250 line but just nearly so we were screwed, and I was referring to a mix of Fair Deal and New Deal

by Anonymous 13 years ago

he didn't blame Obama. And I think Obama believes we can just pull trillions of dollars out of our ass

by Anonymous 12 years ago

He didn't have to... it's like being in court and the guy saying, the defendant had a gun and was shooting in the victims house during the time the victim died of a gunshot. He doesn't have to say the defendant shot the victim, because of the setup, you can do that yourself. And no Obama doesn't think he can pull it out of his ass. The republicans think that, because they're not allowing the rich one percent of America to get taxed at all. They expect Obama to raise tax for the poor and starving majority of America, which Bush already did.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They are trying to address it. It's not like they're purposely ignoring it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It took a near government shutdown to get them to work on it....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The government has shut down before. Every time it happens, people act like it's something brand new and unheard of.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, when you have one side constantly blocking the socialist on every minor issue, what do you expect? A united front?
