+751 Knowing that our brains can't make up faces, and every face in our dreams have been faces we have seen in real life makes you wonder how many strangers' dreams you have been in, amirite?

That perfect person in your dreams...

our brains can't make up faces? is art not real!? :o (not sarcasm)

Our brains store every face we ever see. Like when you're in a concert, at the mall, or anywhere else with tons of people, you subconciously remember their faces. All the "random" people in your dreams are real people you've seen and just weren't important enough to fully remember.

I've also heard that you can dream about other people whom you've never seen before..Its an interesting concept.

Well yeah, I've heard that.. I was just thinking if our brains can't make up faces then every character in every piece of art (except you know the really loony ones; the ones that are too distorted to exist) must have been seen somewhere. Crazy x_x the dream part is crazy too of course. xD

DONT LOOK AT MY FACE. ...ha ha consider your dreams infiltrated. smirk

Darn you

How can this be proven?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Where is this information coming from? Since nobody's actually figured out exactly how our brains work yet and we can't look into people's memories or dreams, there's no way someone could know that.

I think it is different with art, because then you are actually attempting to make a new face, and you can change how every part of the face looks- make the nose longer, eyes smaller, etc. Also, can the people in our dreams have faces that are a mixture of people's faces? Most of the time I don't even see faces in my dreams, though, or most other details.

I dont' think I believe this. I can picture an outrageous nose and set of strange eyes and mix-match all the different facial features however my brain decides. How can all of the insane mosters/creatures we develop have been seen previously? I'm sure that a lot of the faces we think of are ones we've seen before, but who's to say that we're not capable of imagining something new? I'm skeptical of this...

Makes me wonder who my imaginary friend was when I was little.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hmm, yeah me too. Interesting thing to think about. And also, I like your username :]

I had dream where everybody had a face, and I met my soul mate. He, however did not have a face. So, it's that I have not seen my soul mate at all anywhere, or I'm just weird, or my soul mate is tall guy wearing a black stick figure costume.

I would love to see the scientific explanation for this.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would love to see a source for this "fact". Reminds me of when lots of seemingly intelligent people went around saying, "Did you know you only use 10% of your brain?!" Which is bull of course. Having said that, many, many people in my dreams have very undefined faces that I could never recall or picture, that's not to say they don't have a face at all though.
