+552 It's strange that apple hasn't come out with a video game system, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

they did in the 80's, but it failed. Really badly. (reference: MSN article)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I saw something on G4 a while back about this white cube-like thing they were trying to make.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It was called the Pippin, and it fell flat on its face.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Their Macs, iPods, iPads, and iPhones can be game systems.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Exactly, they already appeal to the extremely casual gamer market.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The Pippin was more of a fail then the Saturn, but the i[entertainment device] could be considered partial gaming systems.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They'll eventually make one. Probably call it iGame.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

because it would blow big monkey chunks.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

they market the iPod touch as a gaming device so this post is wrong.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

By gaming system, I mean something like a 360 or PS3, something you can plug in to your TV

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, with an iPhone 4 and an apple TV you can do just that. Except you now have two screens that you can monitor.

Apple works best in crowded markets like the smartphone market. The iPhone really isn't as god-like is people seem to believe. Its fast and smooth, but its missing a ton of features other phones have. The reason it sells so well is because Apple makes it stand out. When people are looking for a phone they usually don't want to look through a ton of different phones and figure out which one suits their needs, so any phone that sticks out extremely well like the iPhone is going to sell. That strategy doesn't work with game systems because there are never usually more than 3 or 4 of the same type of game systems on the market at the same time. Apple would fail horribly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As an iPhone user, what other features? An personally, I'd rather have an iPhone that's missing a few features than the other touch phones simply because every other touchscreen phone I've used has a horribly laggy screen, or the touch screen works on pressure rather than heat

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I was comparing the iPhone to Android really. The iPhone is basically more of an entertainment device and Android phones are more like mini computers. And if a phone still uses a pressure sensitive touch screen then it's probably not a smartphone. And laggy as hell? The only other two real types of smartphones at the moment are Android and Windows Phone 7. Android isn't even laggy unless you're using a Samsung budget phone and Windows Phone 7 makes the iPhone look like a laggy piece of shit.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I've used both the android and windows 7, I had an android before I switched to iPhone, and two of my friends have windows 7, I still prefer the iPhone, I didn't find that the android had a very user-friendly set up, and the windows was just too big and bulky

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Honestly I never understood why people see Android as difficult to use. It's obviously nowhere as easy to use as an iPhone but that's just because Apple strives to make their products idiot-proof (not calling you stupid, just saying that's what Apple does). I feel like some people look at the Android buttons and say "Oh my God....... there's four of them? Too much!'

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I just didn't like how it was set up on screen, and as much as apple tries to idiot proof their products, the universe keeps making bigger and better idiots. And to be fair, the iPhone has 5 buttons lol

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I personally like Android's setup better. If you're talking about the homescreen then I feel like Android is much more organized. You have home screens for Widgets and your favorite apps and an app drawer that stores everything. The iPhone throws everything on the homescreen and leaves it to you to organize it. To me it feels like a huge mess and apparently Apple agrees considering it added a search bar right on the homescreen. And I meant buttons on the front of it. Not the volume and lock buttons. iPhone only has one button and there are still people who want Apple to get rid of it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah I was talking about the homescreen, but with the new software I can store all my 68 apps on one page on my homescreen. And the search bar not only searches apps, it's searches your contacts, emails, internet history, songs, movies, notes, and texts messages.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Android can also do that as well. The default launcher can't, but the awesomeness of Android is that you can change every single aspect you're unhappy with. Did you ever try LauncherPro on your Android phone? You can make folders, make up to 15 scrollable dock icons, change the grid on the homescreen to whatever you want and do a hell of a lot more. Even if you don't like that, there are TONS of other launchers. If I wanted I could download a launcher that is exactly the same as iPhone's homescreen or Windows Phone 7, as well as anything else developers manage to pull out of their imagination. And about the touch screen Thomas is right. If you tried using a hair dryer it wont work, therefore its not heat sensitive. Capacitive screens are made to react with your finger and read the change in electrical currents as an input. Its possible to make some phones so sensitive you don't actual need to touch the screen. Most cell phone don't do that though because then your legs could activat...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never knew you could do that with an android. One of the main reasons I got an iPhone was because of the carrier my family ended up switching to, because they didn't offer service to androids. But I really like my iPhone, especially with the options after a jailbreak, the emulators are one of my favorite things. And the reason I thought it was heat sensitive was because I put it in a plastic baggy once and used it and it was fine, then I put some hot water on the bag and it made the screen quite hard to control properly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Do you have At&t? If so you probably wouldn't want an Android phone on there anyways. They take out the ability to download apps from files the market which is just stupid. By emulators do you mean game system emulators? If so then Android has a ton of them in the Market. It has anything from NES to PlayStation and Nintendo DS if you're phone is strong enough. And rooting (Jailbreaking an android) lets you do a LOT more than a jailbroken iPhone. You can even completely change the OS to improve it and update your phone if manufacturers don't. I've managed to make my 150 dollar phone without a contract perform better than Samsung's entire Galaxy S series. And I only pay 25 dollars a month for unlimited internet, texting, and more minutes than I use. I probably sound like an advertisement, but its awesome.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm on fido lol, and wow, is it really easy to do all that, I'm not exactly a techy lol, my nerd stops at about pokémon and Magic The Gathering lol.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So you're in Canada? My bad. And anyway it depends on which phone you have. There are apps and tools that do the rooting for you and work on 99% of phones. But if your phone is within that 1% it might be a bit harder. I dont know how difficult jailbreaking is but people say rooting is easier since Google and manufacturers don't go out of their way to lock down their phones like Apple does. Google searching "how to root *phone* for *carrier* is how I figure it out. I'm probably more of a nerd than you when it comes to phones though. A lot of Android users are to be honest.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well jailbreaking used to be really easy, but now apple is really trying to lock it down. You used to be able to use spirit to jailbreak it in under 5 minutes, but now you need to put it in a DUF mode and go through a really long process to do it. You've actually convinced me to check out an android because my contract on my iPhone is up soon

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well check it out. Don't just switch over to Android though. Actually try it out first. You may still prefer iPhone. Some people do. Whatever you do though avoid Samsung. They're the worst of the 4 main Android phone makers and they suck at updating their phones. HTC and LG are probably the two best companies.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ok, I'll be sure to check it out. I'll probably just stick with iPhone though simply because I have 2 family members and a couple friends with iphones

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So? You should go with what you like better. If you still prefer the iPhone that's fine but don't stay with it just because you know more people who have it. Also take a look at this video. It's for the Lg Optimus 2X (T-mobile renamed it G2X here) and it's extremely fast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exJ2E5_1-Ag

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well what I meant by that was we all have apps on our phones that we play with each other, like me and my sister use the Harry potter spells app to duel each other.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh I see. Still it doesn't hurt to check if some of those apps are on the Android Market. Developing apps for Android is cheaper than iPhone so a lot of developers ported their apps. Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Doodle Jump. Most of the really popular iPhone apps are on Android too. I checked the Market and there are about 5 apps that showed up when I searched "harry potter spells". You could always check and see if any of your apps are on the market. https://market.android.com/

Lol no touch screen runs on heat.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How does the iPhone touch screen work then? Because the only thing I could think of was it's heat sensitive, based on a couple tests i did myself

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Changes in electrical current. Google how do capacitive touch screens work

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The iWii. Hehe.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

http://www.computercloset.org/BandaiPippin.htm looks like it

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It'll be called the iPlay
