+358 In third world countries, it doesn't make sense that women who struggle to feed themselves then go and have 6 children, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If they're living in poverty, they usually don't have the means for birth control or abortions. Too sad

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Don't forget, those people don't have the opportunities for education than you and I have. They don't know about birth control, safe sex, and sometimes they don't even know that sex is why they have babies. It's not fair to judge those people based on our lives and experiences.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not judging them. my point is that it is worsening the problem

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, it's a serious problem and it's incredibly sad. As Gnormis said, it is an issue than even Western society still faces, unfortunately. There are many flaws in our sex education system, the biggest one being that our Pagan tendency is to not discuss it at all, you know? But hey, what can you do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Are you sure it's because of birth control? More people also corresponds to more workers in the farms... The food supply is proportional to the population, so whether the population is large or small it is still likely to be inadequate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'll readily admit that I'm no leading expert on why a lesser developed country has these problems. I was merely speculating.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I honestly don't mean to sound like a Dick but: and sometimes they don't even know that sex is why they have babies. Really? They're primitive not retarded. Have some respect.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Not to be a Dick". Was that pun intended, or am I the only one who saw the connection between dicks and sex?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

penises and sex are related?? hur dur dur

by Anonymous 13 years ago

LOL! No but good try? Well actually, it's kind of a long stretch (pun intended haha)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

birth control

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Makes a little more sense when you consider 5 of them will probably die by the age of 3. If you want one of your kids to grow up ever you will have more chance with 100 children than with 1.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

doesn't seem fair, by that argument, to bring children into the world who have such a little chance of surviving

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The alternative is just stop having kids. Which is an option any race with any issues have if they want it. But self imposed genocide (i.e. the end of a race) is generally a last resort.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(@Joe): dont forget that many of those women have been/will be raped.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why does everyone always give everyone the benefit of the doubt? Rape is not the main cause of higher birth rates (though it is an issue). Societal pressures, lack of sex ed, and lack of birth control are. Once again, I'm not judging or condemning the women, just pointing out a serious problem

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Considering lack of birth control and lack of sex ed are problems that even western societies still face you wouldn't blame them for trying to find some clean drinking water before they start handing out family planning kits. Maybe when there is enough food, water, and reliable shelter to go around the societal pressures won't seem so insurmountable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Everyone gives the benefit of the doubt because in many countries, especially in Africa, women are forced to have sex against their will. Some are mercilessly beaten too. Consider that to be a bigger problem, think of Darfur. Dont not give the benefit of the doubt because you dont know what these women go through.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@1076857 (Anonymous): Don't not. double negative.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was supposed to be I think. Do not *not* makes sense if you emphasize it correctly. It's not saying "don't know nobody" it's saying "don't NOT" do it and meaning do it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Africa isn't a country genius. And the whole of Africa isn't just a giant rape-war. It's great where I am. At least say ''some parts of Africa.''

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'm pretty sure it meant that in many countries, such as countries in Africa. the point still remains though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well also you have to remember, that in developing nations, that the only means to provide support for the family, is for many children. When the parents get old, they rely on their kids to take care of them. Plus, everything they said above.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And in agrarian economies, more children means more agricultural product, not more mouths to feed. Or at least that's the conception, practically it doesn't always work.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah, they might need the children to work and help support the family. Unless, they don't even get paid at all? (I don't really know)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, the more kids you have, the more the family is supported, but the more mouths there are to support as well. It doesn't seem to be working, especially due to lack of employment in a lot of impoverished areas

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They don't have birth control, and a lot of women are raped in these countries. I'm sure they don't want to have children, but what are they going to do? Kill them?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

US and the UK have the highest amount of rapes.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not all rapes are reported.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's also punishable by law in the US and UK. In a lot of third world countries, it is ignored. I'm not saying that some women aren't foolishly popping out children, I'm saying that it's not always their choice.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That isn@1079360 (KittyNinja): He's talking about women which do have the choice. Why do they purposely have children when they can't support themselves?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

US and UK have the highest amount of RECORDED rapes. who is going to track rapes in smal villages in Africa that are terrorized by gangs of people?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I may just be making a generalization, but I believe that most women in third world countries are sexually abused. It's not like they're just sleeping around for funsies, although some might...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i don't think "most" is accurate

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They have no money for any forms of contraceptives, their religion might not allow abortion. It's honestly not their faults, especially because most of them don't have too much outside communication and don't know their pregnant until later. NO THEY ARE NOT RAPED MORE ^^^ http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~ad361896/anne/cease/rapestatisticspage.html I don't know if its 100% reliable but it should be accurate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"The United States has the world's highest rape rate of the countries that publish such statistics" and "Only 16% of rapes are ever reported to the police". I think third world countries have a little bit bigger problems than recording statistics to publish to the world. You also need to take into consideration the 16% thing. My guess is that if it's that low in first world countries, that it would be a lot less in third world countries too. Also, remember population differences.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1) the survival rate for children is very low. 2) the only sources of jobs require a lot a labor!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think the OP is talking about women who get raped. You don't have to point it out.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1) most women in 3rd world countries are raped. In some 3rd world countries it is expected that they will be raped. 2) When I worked in Honduras, I was told that very poor families have lots of children so they will have more hands to find food and work. Some families don't care at all if their kids get an education or even have food for themselves. They also have a lot of kids because then they will have a better chance of being taken care of in their old age. 3) In 3rd world countries there is NO sex education. Girls are married at a young age and are NOT taught anything about sex or contraceptives.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not sure if it's classified a third world, but I do know there are some tribes in Papua New Guinea who believe that sex and pregnancy/childbirth are not related. That is, anytime after menstruation a woman can be "blessed" with a child by a God, and intercourse has nothing to do with it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

A lot of them are raped.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(J.): Fucking really?
