+348 Don't argue... dance is an art form. it is beautiful, difficult, and yet has to look easy. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

look.. after a minute, three people agree already :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because it was at the top and more people see it, henceforth more vote xDD But it is true :D<3

by Anonymous 13 years ago

idc... at least it has people agreeing with me :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hmmm... *ponders over your comment* Yep, definitely a newb.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

not your place to comment...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and yet, you (and plenty of other people) refuse to even disagree with the question...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's the hardest part about dance. Making it look easy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

SO agreed

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Now, the real question, is it a sport?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I could argue...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Please do.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Fine. The fact that it is "not a real sport" is a complete opinion. It shares nearly every element with other sports (can be done in a team, judged on performance, physical activity, recreational, practice makes perfect, etc.) Would you call swimming a sport? gymnastics? track and field? (well, who cares what you think, you'd say just about anything to prove me wrong, but all four are olympic sports.) [edit] haha btw the thing i love is that you (and 9 other people) will argue with me at any cost but refuse to click the stupid "disagree" button. Sorry, but you're outnumbered by 316 (and counting.)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually, swimming, gymnastics, and track and field are Olympic games, not sports. Dance isn't a sport for one simple reason, an that is because it is a form of art, of self expression. Would you call painting a sport? No, because it's art.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Sport: (n.) an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. Dancing, swimming, gymnastics, and track and field are all sports.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

By that definition, simply throwing a football is a sport

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't write it. *le shrug* There's a difference between a professional sport and a playful sport though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was actually referring to the "requires a skill" part

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would like to see you take a dance class and say that it's not a sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know, right? I've been in classes where both my feet would be bleeding after five minutes. And the teacher would see the blood stains on my tights and tell me to suck it up.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just cause something is incredibly hard doesn't make it a sport

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you dont play dance, you dont work together as a team all at the same time, and i agree being a scientist must be hard but its not a sport. and idk why this started out with dont argue? no one thinks its not an art.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'd like to see you do lifts/timing/all of tap and NOT work together as a team... Though I'm not disputing it's not really a sport. XD It's in its own class of existence. ...the real question then becomes why gymnastics is part of the Olympics if dance isn't a sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

because its called the olympic games not the olympic sports. and gymnastics does a lot of flippy stuff and stuff.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

OH SNAP. Goes to show I don't watch the Olympics, eh?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

its ok. i think of sports too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Competitive dance includes team work. You don't "play" running or swimming or gymnastics, all three are olympic sports. you "play" a board game, but that doesn't make it a sport. Golf doesn't include teamwork, neither does tennis or sometimes swimming, but those are all sports. Your comment was completely irrelevant to the argument. It's a moot point either way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

no its not, it is to you cuz you do dance, but more people agree with my point than people who dont. and again, its the olympic games. i also do not concider golf or swimming a sport, and tennis you have a component.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Being difficult doesn't make it a sport. When I'm playing softball, I'm playing a sport. When I'm dancing in my jazz class, I'm dancing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

regardless, it fits the dictionary definition of sport.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

lol whats the dictionary definition of a sport/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sport

by Anonymous 13 years ago

half of those deffinitions go for your side half of them go to mine, and if its a recreational activity then video games are a sport too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Think of the definition as a whole like a normal person reading the dictionary.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Um the dictionary has multiple deffinitions, and ok look at it as a whole dance isnt a sport. i mean its tottaly a person being made fun of.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i like this post. =)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm a dancer, and I don't really consider dance a sport. I think it's more of an incredibly difficult form of art. But it's important to remember that we do many things that athletes do (at least the real dancers do). Although, it is now a gatorade recognized sport :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

gatorade recognized=official :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well holy shit, a drink designed to replenshish vitamins has recognized that it can help with your "sport". It also helps when you're just out doing work, next thing you know you're gonna tell me that anything you do that makes you sweat is a sport

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it was sarcasm. truly, try to have a sense of humor. it helps a little. and btw, the question isnt "its a sport" but "its an art form" so why are we arguing about the sport thing anyway?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Because in one of my comments I asked if anyone considers it a sport, and it just escalated from there and you dragged yourself in to the argument

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well I'm dragging myself out, now that I've established that I'm right.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Whatever helps you sleep at night

by Anonymous 13 years ago

is that not the most OVERUSED response there is? if you want to offend me, at least be a little creative...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why did you automatically assume I was trying to offend you? I just fail to see how your right

by Anonymous 13 years ago

whether or not you were trying to offend me, you did. most rational people who clearly care about something as much as i do will be offended if you come at it with truly stupid insults as you did...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it involves kicking, just like soccer, martial arts, kickball, and swimming...
