Suffocation in a coffin underground would be the absolute worst way to die, amirite?

yeah because everyone thinks you were already dead so nobody in the whole world really knew how you went. that would really be sad. and theres also drowning.

Back in the 1700s (dont quote me on that), they used to attach strings to the deceased's finger, which in turn would ring a bell if pulled. That means if the person wasn't truly dead, they'd ring the bell and be saved.

That's fantastic! Not being sarcastic.

Except punching your way out of the coffin and digging through the dirt is impossible, sadly.

Well, once you get over the inevitable terror of being buried alive and not being strong enough to break out, I think this might actually be a very pleasant way to die. You wouldn't be frantically choking and gasping for air; the gradual loss of oxygen would make you slowly lose consciousness first. And wouldn't we all like to die in our sleep?

This used to be my number-one phobia. To the point where I would stay up at night terrified of going to sleep and waking up in a coffin.

No way. Just thinking of death by papercut makes me cringe.

Someone should write some sort of code to automatically comment "No, Hitler would be." on any post that says "the worst".

No, it would be worse if you were burned at the stake until you're almost dead, then someone dumped water on you and put the fire out, then you were put in an electric chair until you're just about to die, then pulled away from the chair by a noose around your neck, which at the last second would be cut, dropping you into a coffin filled with fire ants, which would then be closed and buried as you get eaten alive.
It actually scares me how much thought I put into this.

Reading this again, I realized you said "suffocation." Suffocation is defined as "a condition of severely deficient supply of oxygen to the body that arises from being unable to breathe normally." If you were buried alive, you'd die of oxygen deprivation, not suffocation.

There are worse ways to die. I've experienced plenty.

Choking to death on semen or drowning in feces seems a bit worse. Or being buried underground in a coffin filled with feces and semen...
