One of the only things Facebook is good for is developing a friendship with someone you don't have chance to speak to a lot in real life. Your idea would basically be like saying "You're not important enough to me for me to want to hear about your life." to about half of the people really get along with.

Or you could just do this for yourself, and let other people have as many friends as they want. The choice is left up to each person, the way it should be
