its kind of odd really. I mean you would think that all the chemicals would cost more than just chopping the fruit/veggies straight from the tree/bush/ground, sticking it in a crate and sending it to a grocery store but NOOO. It's like they're trying to make us unhealthy!

Well, a lot of the genetic modifications are there to make food grow faster, be more resistant to pests or bad weather, etc. If it's cheaper to produce, it's cheaper to sell.
