Or French. "Gagner" = gainyay.

If you know the rules you can sound it out. Any word going ie will make an ee as in cheese sound. Any word going ei will make the sound like eye. That's how we read German; learn the basics and sound it out. One of the easiest languages. Other languages not so much.
