+512 You dislike it intently when someone has never read Romeo and Juliet, yet quotes it without knowing what it means. "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Well duh guys, it means 'Where are you Romeo?'" Uh, no. Let's try 'Why do you have to be a Montague, Romeo?' Amirite?

Why would someone randomly quote Romeo and Juliet if they had never read it?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It sounds stupid that someone would write a song about Romeo and Juliet if they didn't know what happened at the end, yet Taylor Swift did

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not just Taylor Swift. It's many different authors, singers, etc. And I don't think it's the lack of knowledge about the ending, because most people know that they die. What many people do not know, however, is that they were like 13 and knew each other for barely a week...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh yeah, I know, Taylor Swift is just a more prominent example. Personally I think Romeo and Juliet were dumb idiots

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed. When I read it, I expected a lovey dovey, romantic story because that's how it's portrayed. But really they're 2 teenagers who think they're madly in love...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They were. It was a tragedy though, not a love story, and that's what a lot of people seem to forget. Taylor Swift, for example, has a song about how it was a love story. However, ti was a tragedy. Nto just because they were "in love" and couldn't be together, but because they were stupid kids, doing stupid things, and their parents were too busy fighting to stop them from beign so stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I thought Juliet was 13 and Romeo was like 17.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Taylor Swift said she wrote Love Story because she said she didn't like how it ended so sadly, so she wanted to give them a happier ending.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Taylor Swift didn't really wirte "Love Story" about Romeo and Juliet. She wrote it about how she liked someone, so she took him to meet her friends and family, and they're like "no, he's bad for you". So, for the first time in her life, she could relate a tiny bit to Romeo and Juliet, and the feeling of how no one but them wanted them to be together. She just built off of that feeling. She wasn't trying to sing about Shakespear, she trying to sing about her feelings. Don't you hate it when someone tries to make fun of something without really knowing what it's about?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So it's not actually about Romeo and Juliet, it's about Taylor Swift extensively comparing herself to Romeo and Juliet. . . . right.

well if you're like me, you go to shakespeare conventions and try to impress people by quoting shakespeare, even though you've never read any of his stuff. one time, i said this quote and im like 'why didn't she just go and find him?'. people gave me a look like 'why art thou here?'. man, that was emabrassing. please learn from my mistake.

Hipster alert!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Stupid anon is stupid Do you know what "hipster" means?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Romeo, Romeo. Wherefore art though, Romeo?" Actually means "Why are you Romeo?"- Like why is he a Montague. "Wherefore" means "why"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, i noticed that too.. i was read and i was like welll actually it means " for what purpose are you, Romeo" but you know its cool, it whatever

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wherefore actually means "why" in that example.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know wherefore means why, but I think it's safe to say that all of us, having seen ''Wherefore art thou Romeo?'' for the first time, without being told what it means, would assume that it means ''Where are you, Romeo?'' No need to call them stupid or anything. Don't hate, educate.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I don't think the poster was hating exactly. I think they were just tired of people pretending they know a subject when they don't.
