+366 I'm not trying to offend anyone, but it's sad how fat america is becoming. It's really not healthy. Stores and restraunts need to start selling healthier food and smaller portion sizes. Plus people need to take the extra five minutes to cook something healthy instead of eating fast food; Amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not everyone in america are as fat as you think. I only eat fast food once every 3 months. I actually LOVE fruits and vegetables. I weigh under the normal weight for my age. DIE IN A FIRE.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ya I didn't mean everyone. I also love fruits and vegetables, and I'm normal weight for my age. I just mean the majority (60%) that are overweight. Oh and I'm American too.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Those stats are wrong. Step outside and you'll see that the majority of the people aren't fat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Google it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"THOSE STATS ARE WRONG" step outside go somewhere youd see most of us are fit

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@1116829 (PennieGeeRastaFarm): She's right, if you look on google most sites say approx 74% of Americans are overweight. The reason it sounds wrong is because it means overweight not obese and overweight doesn't seem that fat to us. For example my friend is 5'5 and 150 lbs and technically overweight even though she won't admit it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i'd say that's a bit overweight...cuz im 5'8'' and im only 125

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Damn Skinny Mac! your BMI is a 19 :P Well she's pretty curvy(double D's and a big ass) but I'm not saying "She's not fat she's curvy!" because she is overweight and her boobs don't weigh 30 pounds. What I meant by that example though was that when you look at her you don't think "that girl is fat", you'd think "that girl is a little chubby" even though she's technically overweight.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It seems as if more people care more about weight than being actually healthy. I don't see anorexia as healthy (in fact I highly despise it) but as long as they're thin, the general public doesn't really care. But oh, just because someone weighs over the "norm", they're officially disgusting and unhealthy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I despise the stereotype of fat Americans, since I work hard every day to maintain my healthy lifestyle. It's that stereotype and general dissatisfaction that sparks hypocritical disapproval in Americans.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why do you feel the need to single out America? There are fat people all over the world, and most Americans aren't even overweight.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually according to Forbes.com 74% of Americans are overweight, that's a majority.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Statistics aren't accurate. Most of the people I've met aren't overweight.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I highly doubt your opinion on the Americans you've met is more accurate than that statistic. It's saying 74% of all Americans, for all you know the city/state where you met them is one of the few where the majority is healthy.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They aren't wealthy. Statistic arent accurate because however many out of a small group of people representing the whole country isnt accurate. Unless you weigh everyone you don't know for sure.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i think people are thinking that the poster is saying they are obese, being overweight can be as simple as if a girl has bigger boobs then they have a higher likelyhood of being "overweight" now thats not saying that the person is ugly as quite the contrary as i know lots of people being "overweight" but yet they look phenomanel. it all depends on your body type, where your fat is stored, muscle's, and BMI. lets not all get our panties up in a bunch because we have a differant opinion then the poster, although i believe the postedr should go about a differant way then calling people names

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly. Most Americans are overweight but people are thinking "obese" which is why it sounds wrong. Honestly borderline overweight people don't even look fat which is why people are saying "Step outside and you'll see that the majority of the people aren't fat."

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think its a bit stupied that people aways focus on americans being fat. There a obesity problem in the UK.And im english.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There may be obesity problems in other parts of the world, but America has the biggest problem. Most European countries have a much better culture when it comes to food. Generally, cooking for yourself is a valued skill in Europe, but in America society encourages us to eat out often because it's a sign of wealth.

*Australia is fattest

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Really? Link, please? I've never heard that before :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

?@1137311 (agent_eclaire): Google?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All the sites I've looked at have said United States was either #1 or around #5, with Australia not even in the top 15.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Must be old. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article4171160.ece http://www.health-fitness.com.au/australia-now-fattest-country-in-the-world/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Those sites are from 2008. http://living400lbs.wordpress.com/2011/02/27/whats-the-fattest-country-in-the-world/ http://www.expatify.com/news/the-worlds-top-10-fattest-countries.html These are both from 2011.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

stores don't need to sell smaller portions, for those of us who can eat like a cow and still remain skinny

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thats still unhealthy. the point is americans need to eat healthier, and eating huge portions of sugary, fatty foods isn't healthy even if your still skinny.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ahh yes i see your point...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think the real problem is a lack of self-control, it's not a restaurant's fault if people buy too much food.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Speaking for myself, whenever I go to a restaurant I always order the half portion and I'm still shocked by how much food there is. But I still force myself to eat all of it because usually other people are paying for me and I don't want to seem ungrateful, and I don't want to waste the food. That's not so much a problem with self-control, that's more a problem of being pressured to finish food.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can ask your waiter/waitress to put it in a container and take it home

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I do do that, though there are some foods that just aren't good after a while. Like some foods are nasty after they get cold, even once you reheat them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i hate when that happens. sometimes if you put them in the oven, theyre still good though. have you tried that?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yep, and sometimes that works a bit better, but sometimes it's still just hopeless.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

true:(

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can't really blame people's weight problems on the stores and restaurants. They're businesses, and if they can make money off of selling unhealthy food, they're going to do it. That's how business works. People just need to learn self-control.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ok, please explain to me what healthy dinner you can cook and prepare in 5 minutes?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Pasta. Boil it, 5 min. Throw spaghetti sauce on it. Serve fresh spinach w/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Woot, carbs and veggies. Where's the meat?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

In your head apparently.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i hate that schools are doing this healthy bullshit. i can't get a candy bar from a vending machine because they are worried that everyone will get fat, so i have to choose from fat free fruit snacks or a no calorie chewie bar. awesome.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

bring a snack from home or something then.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i dont have candy bars at home

by Anonymous 13 years ago

buy them at a store then

by Anonymous 13 years ago

why cant the school just put them in the vending machine?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

because its not healthy and thats why america's so overweight. it's like encouraging people to eat candy.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i dont care if most of america is overweight, i still want the option of getting a candy bar

by Anonymous 13 years ago

just buy them at a store then!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not as convenient as having it in a vending machine! My school still has chips and candy, but they've switched over to diet pop, fresca and vitamin water, and lunch isn't long enough to walk to the store to get candy, you have to beg and/or bribe for rides from the kids with cars

by Anonymous 13 years ago

then just have the diet pop, fresca and vitamin water! you don't need candy to live

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It all taste like shit! And everything is stupidly expensive

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I wish people would quit this "Americans are fat and lazy" business. Some people can't control their weight, and if you look outside, you might see one obese person or most likely none at all.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Being obese isn't the same as being overweight

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Another person assuming America is the only place with these problems. UK: 63.8% overweight Australia: 67.4% overweight

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah maybe australia is overweight, idk ive never been there. I'm american and i've seen that lots of americans are overweight. I wasn't saying its the only place.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not that the majority of people are overweight, it's the fact that there is a rising obesitiy rate in children that are as big as a full grown man should be. America should look at itself and see that there is a growing trend of obesity in younger and younger children, and it may not be horrific now, but what about 50 years in the future when school lunches have'nt changed and there is no structured excersize in schools? The adults need to change their habits now so the next generations don't have to be bought up with the unhealthy lifestyle.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm recovering from an eating disorder, and the dietitian I see has made a comment that the meals served at restaurants have roughly enough portions for 3 meals! It's no wonder that many people get overwhelmed by the amount of food. I agree that the restaurants need to make the portions smaller. The amount of food they give you is just astronomical!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's called taking it home and eating it later? You can do that you know, you don't have to eat it all at the restaurant

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Its human nature to eat until full. I dont think theres anything wrong with eating a shit ton of food and being fat, overweight or obese, just dont ask for special benefits from the government. Your fat, not handicap. Your problem can be solved with a treadmill and celery sticks.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

While I can see both sides, I think that it is ultimately up to people to make their own choices. Yes, I think healthy alternatives should be available to those who want them, but it is ultimately up to the person to decide whether or not they want to eat KFC or a salad. And it's all about balance--if you decide to only eat KFC and never exercise, or if you only eat salad and go to the gym for hours, you're going to have a bad time.
