+221 Whoever decided to tell children to sneeze/cough into their hands is mentally challenged. It's pretty counter-intuitive to put your germs on things that you touch everything with, amirite?

I've never heard anyone tell a child that...

I think they just tell them to cough in their arm...like their sleeves. And people don't go around touching things with the inside of their arm

well first of all it's into your elbow... but even if it were into your hands, it's more polite to do that and then use hand sanitizer or wash your hands, than it is to cough in somebodies face or on their food.

the elbow/forearm thing is new to the 21st century. or at least, that's my understanding. in any case, i think the OP meant "covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze" in general. mother doesn't say "cover up with your elbow when you sneeze". mother says "cover up when you sneeze"

You're to use your hands because it is much more simple to wash your hands than change your shirt.
