+595 It's ok to be a gay Christian. amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha YEAH. lets just pick and choose whatever we want to believe in the bible. Nbd

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Haha YEAH. Let's discriminate against 2 people who love each other and aren't affecting you AT ALL. you have a right to pick and chose what you want to believe from the bible if some of the things it says are stupid and outdated.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not discriminating to have a belief. I'm Christian and I don't believe it's right or with God and my beliefs, but won't shun or discriminate against anyone based on that. I'm tired of people automatically assuming that all Christians are homophobes.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Assuming that it actually is a sin to be gay, which I'm not in a position to comment on, then, as horrible as it may be, yes, it would be wrong to go against it and be Christian. Again, I'd like to stress that I have no idea whether or not it actually is a sin, but if you commit you're entire life to Christianity, you shouldn't just pick and choose which aspects to follow, and use the excuse that it's outdated. If God is as all knowing as I hear he is, nothing he dictates would go out of date, or he would predict and alter it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"Dont eat pork" that definitely went out of date

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Jewish custom. Do your research.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It was also written in the old testament, I have done my research.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Old Testament is about the Jews. There was no "Christianity" until Christ died, rose again, and ascended to Heaven.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Your proving my point. Parts of the bible do go out of date because things change

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The difference between Judaism and Christianity is belief in the New Testament, which in fact DOES contain the law that we SHOULD live by. Thus, it speaks against homosexuality but also says that all of the ritualistic ways to keep clean that the pre-Christ Jews had to follow to stay in God's favor are basically obsolete.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

i know eh? you know its bad when the Bible specifically says no but someone who calls himself a Christian asks amirite.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, bible doesn't really say much against gays...it's mostly Christian beliefs imprinted on the masses that don't bother knowing the bible.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Jesus is a man and he loved all men. Sounds to me like he approves of homosexuality.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

but did he MAKE love to all men? :P

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How you know he didn't?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(:s): He did have twelve MALE apostles.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(:s): Well, speaking as a male, I think I'd remember...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

God did in fact make love! He also made hate, joy, ambition and grief. He made the plants and the animals. He made heterosexuals and homosexuals. God made everything. So yes, God did make love.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

He loved all men, that doesn't mean He approved. He created man a certain way for a certain purpose. He still loves everyone that sins though.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_hyT7_Bx9o&feature=player_embedded It's been pointed out many times before, the parts of the Bible that forbid homosexuality also forbid eating shrimp, and shaving. It isn't "picking and choosing" to realise that the world is different 2000+ years later, and using critical thinking to realise that eating shrimp is ok now because you can buy it clean and disease free, and using critical thinking to realise that two adults in a consenting relationship aren't hurting anyone.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Old Testament law was created before Jesus saved us. New Testament law is after, and therefore applies. Thus, we don't have to care about shrimp (which actually had nothing to do with disease) but we do have to watch who we jump in bed with.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

inb4 overly sensitive people flip the fuck out

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yes it is.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The bible also "says" that when you get married, the bride has to be a virgin or she will be executed.. but nobody cares about that, so why do people care about homosexuality just because its in the bible?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No one cares about it anymore because it is now socially acceptable. It's kind of sad what society has done.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's sad what society has done? No way, I think it's great that society has started accepting people instead of executing them. Executing someone is far worse that having sex.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

When you put it like that, I agree with you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're obviously not a christian and you haven't read the bible, so stop talking.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I am a christian, I haven't read the entire bible but that doesn't mean that I don't know what Im talking about.. anyways it doesn't matter, Im a christian, I like girls and god loves me, no matter what.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, in the Christian faith, you're still supposed to be pure when you get married. It may not matter in today's society, but the Bible and the Christian Church's teachings haven't changed very much.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

http://www.christiananswers.net/q-cross/cross-gaychange.html This is another great article. Please take a look at it, I think everyone can gain from it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ok, so I know those articles are written from a Christian perspective. But reading it made me angry and upset."“But” you ask, "isn't heterosexuality the opposite of homosexuality?" No! The opposite of homosexuality is holiness!""homosexual's dealing with the primary issues-a distorted self-image and faulty thinking-both of which Satan uses to “gain control.”" Seriously... Homosexuality isn't caused by "Satan" it's caused by hormones and brain structure, there is nothing wrong or bad about it. Edit: My captcha was "a load of codswallop" and that's what I feel about those articles.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is a delayed response, but I just noticed that I never responded... Yes, I realize homosexuality is caused by hormones and brain structure. That means nothing to me. Why can't God or Satan cause that? Like I (and the article) said, homosexuality isn't a choice. Acting upon homosexual desires is.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

" Less than 5% of gays have ever had a relationship that lasted 3 years or more."? I would like to see a source.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't remember saying that... do you have a source?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, it said so in the first article you linked.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, go look at one of the numerous links the article provides...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There isn't any link or source for that statement, so I really refuse to believe that.

Leviticus 20:13

by Anonymous 12 years ago

After saying this, I want people to know that I am a Christian and that I'm not against gay people. I have several gay friends and I love them to death. The bible clearly states that homosexuality is wrong. But just because you are gay, doesn't mean that you aren't a Christian or that God doesn't love you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Carol (I was feeling left out, I never read any of those)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh give me a fucking break. Enough with the religious posts! All they bring to the table is drama. Everyone has an opinion on religion. Just because it isn't the same as YOURS, doesn't mean you have to bash someone. Even I respect religious people and their right to an opinion, and I'm atheist.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is a site where you state your opinion.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, no duh. Bashing based on religious beliefs just isn't cool.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There is a difference between stating an opinion and bashing religious beliefs.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OP never bashed anyone

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm straight, and I'm a sinner Gay people are sinners too God forgives all sins and loves everybody Yay

by Anonymous 12 years ago

but if you commit the same sins over and over again, knowing it's a sin, you're not respecting God.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So if you're such a big Christian, then you are very well aware that God loves everyone, and that God says you should love everyone, no matter who or what they are. I'm pretty certain judging people isn't loving them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can love a person that I disagree with. So can god. God obviously doesn't approve of rape and murder, but he still loves rapists and murderers right?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You aren't reading my comments. You are just arguing with them. I never said you shouldn't not disagree with people, I said you should LOVE them. I know everyone has different views, but I veiw judging as a form of hate. While we're on this topic, I want you to know that even though you are irritating me, I love you. I will listen (or read) to what you have to say and I will take it to heart and try to see from your prespective.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm Christian so I see where you're coming from, I really do... I'm still kinda torn about the issue myself. I think sometimes it's a choice to be gay, but not always. My dad's sister was raped as a child by her own dad, so I can understand why she's gay. She could probably never look at a man intimately without awful memories coming back. But I don't really have that same sympathy for people raised in a good family. My aunt suffered as a child because of another human. God gave humans free will which is the result of most suffering. So if someone is gay as a result of poor choices made by someone else...I almost feel like God has more sympathy too

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Here is a really good article about homosexuality. http://www.christiananswers.net...gaychange.html

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Did you choose an article that presents BOTH sides of the debate...or just one that will make people blindly agree with you?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

@1135062 (Philosophical_Panda): We then none of us respect God because we continue to sin over and over and over again. Why are Gays more sinful than straight people? I know for a fact that there are plenty of gay people who are far more generous, caring, and heroic than I could ever be so I don't have any right to call them sinners.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why am i tagged in this post??

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have no idea how that happened. I must have pressed the wrong button somehow.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Its k :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're supposed to try and do better the next time, but if you're not attempting to change you just don't care.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Lots of gay (and straight) people aspire to be better Christians. They give to charity, help their friends, serve God, and contribute to society. All of us, not just gay people need to change our ways for the better. Gay people do not sin anymore than straight people do and they do not love God less than straight people.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I am just going to say it. It is okay, my catholic high school excepts gays, they have no problem with it. I see no reason why the wouldn't, it really doesn't hurt anyone. Some people are gay. You are just making everyone unhappy if you complain about it and don't accept it. The bible wasn't written by God. It was written by people (mostly men). It can be sexist, it can be racist unintentionally. Why? Things were different then, different views, different opinions. Just because some guy who died a LONG time ago said it was wrong doesn't make it. Things have changed. You don't see me ranting on about how the world is made up of four elements. Why? Things have changed that just isn't accepted, it was proven wrong.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Just wanna say something real quick... John 3:16. The most famous verse in the Bible. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, and who ever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." Gay Christians: Accepted in Heaven. Now let's all just get along.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you just completely disrespect his teachings, you don't believe in him.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So we can choose which of his teachings to follow? Don't get me wrong, you ARE right, but should we not try to follow his commands to the best of our abilities?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

<3

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hmm. It's a fact that being homosexual is a sin? If it was a fact, would you really be in a heated argument over it? That's just the way I see things. Fact is more like.. 2+2=4. you don't ever see anyone challenging that logic..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not universally accepted because not everybody is Christian. Simple as that. But the Bible, the thing that Christians follow, says that it is wrong. So to religious people, it's fact. If you're atheist or agnostic, you're less likely to accept it as fact.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Since you must be so smart about the Bible, as you keep mentioning what it contains, you should know that Jesus frowned upon religous people.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I actually laughed out loud at this...Yeah, that makes absolutely perfect sense right there.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It does. You do know that there is a difference between religious people and Christains, right? Religous people take things way too literally and seriously. They discriminate against people who aren't like them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

2.4+2.4=4.8 Round 2.4 to 2 and 4.8 to 5. Now you have 2+2=5. There. I agured your logic.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wait, couldn't you only round 2.4 to 2? Giving you 2+2=4... you can't round an answer you don't yet have, I think...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or you could round the answer, so 2.4+2.4=4.8 >> = 5 Hell, I'm not sure, but I don't think what you're saying makes sense at all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I guess, maybe. Then again, I said 2. Not 2.4.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If Christians call gays sinners, on the account that "The bible says so, thus making it true", then they have to admit they are just as bad as any homosexual. Eating shrimp is a sin. So is wearing polyester, and a woman getting married if she's not a virgin. Judging people as if you were god is actually a pretty big sin as far as I'm aware, and a lot of Gay hating Christians are guilty of that one. So, this may be a little bit of a stretch for some people, but I think we can handle it. How about we stop pointing fingers at people, stop calling anyone different than us a sinner, and actually try to get along? I'm not saying I know much about religion, but I think it's pretty obvious that that's one thing God would approve of, if nothing else. Us getting along.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Please tell me where it says polyester and shellfish are a sin. And as for marrying when you're not a virgin... it's a sin to not be a virgin if you're not married in the first place...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree with the picking and choosing thing the first commenter said. God created man a certain way; so he could be with a woman. The points about eating shrimp and the like are valid, but like someone said, times have changed so that shrimp can be eaten cleanly. However, nothing has changed so that men can reproduce with eachother. If the Bible says it's wrong, and you knowingly commit that sin, isn't that going against your beliefs and against God? Yes, everybody sins. Everyone has lied, but I doubt you'll find many serial killers that are Christian. It's a different kind of sin than lying.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How so? All sins are weighed equally in God's eyes. Lying is just as bad as murdering.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Times have changed so you can eat shrimp but times haven't changed and homosexuality is still a sin? Way to choose convenient pieces of the bible, asshole.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

When did I EVER say anything about the Bible changing? Perhaps I just didn't word that correctly. God made it possible for shrimp to be cleaned. If homosexuality were right and natural,(inb4 flame war...) homosexuals would be able to reproduce together. I meant that in a somewhat biological standpoint, not so much biblical. The shrimp, as I used as an example, have changed since the time the Bible was written. However, homosexuality is not. If, somehow, homosexuals were adapted to reproduce together, the standpoint would be different. But so far, they haven't, and I doubt they will, since the Bible has very strong points on homosexuality.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

not really. Being mentioned in the same amount as shrimps doesn't make it a strong point. Being a prick is a strong point though.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That second sentence made absolutely no sense whatsoever. You have no argument, obviously...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You make a strong point out of being a prick who conveniently ignores the obvious.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Okay. Where is your basis for that? Saying that does not automatically make either of arguments more or less valid.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ok. So the Bible mentions two things in a rather equal measure. But "times have changed" so one of them is apparently ok now, despite the Bible being against it still, what with it never changing and all. If you accept changes in the Bible for one thing that is convenient for you yet not another because for some reason it is not, you're just being a prick. There is no "strong point" against gays any more than there are strong points against your mother. (who i assume wears poliester).

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Society changes. Time changes. It's called progress. Get out of the dark ages and embrace it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Are you even reading what I said or are you just giving a standard reply to everyone?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Most likely this will never get read but I would like to clear a few things up. God doesn't hate anyone, NO ONE. That does not mean he likes everything we do. In the Bible it is clearly stated that homosexuality is a sin but that doesn't mean it is any worse than any other sin. People are tempted to do things that they are not supposed to do but that doesn't mean it's okay to do them. Christians are not supposed to discriminate against anyone or judge people. God is the only one that can judge us. We are called to accept people but that does not mean we are called to be accepting of wrong actions that they may do.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's totally okay to be a gay Christian. At my church, there are plenty of openly gay and lesbian people in both the congregation and the clergy and nobody cares.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Just asking, what does your church do with the passages against homosexuality? Do they throw them out?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Having gays/lesbians in a church is the same as having you or me. We are all sinners, the point is to try to resist the temptations of sin. To say the church is throwing out parts of the Bible is like saying because you have lied and you go to church they are throwing out that lying is a sin. Only God can judge people.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, but if they're ok with it that means that they're saying it's not a sin to be gay/lesbian. Yes it's the same as lying, but most churches speak against that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't remember that exact passage coming up in Church but I honestly don't go to the actual service all that much. I know that some translations don't even use the word homosexuality. I'd assume the Church would treat them just like the passages that say the earth was created in six days.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But if the bible says it, shouldn't the churn believe it? My church believes that the earth was created in six days and that homosexuality is wrong. I know several verses that specifically mention homosexuality.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not necessarily. Not all denominations of Christianity consider the Bible to be a literal and exact historical and scientific record. My Church (Episcopal) considers the Bible to be a summary of basic theological truths rather than a literal account.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why not take it literally?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There is no way that all the mysteries of God and nature can be explained in a book under a thousand pages. Take evolution for example; I believe we can learn far more about God by studying nature, God's creation, than we can by studying the Bible, man's creation. That is why I rely on science rather than scripture to learn about the natural world. The Bible is not a perfect holy book. It is merely man's feeble and clumsy attempt at explaining concepts that go beyond our understanding. The Bible was written by humans who were limited by the science and technology of the time, it is an incomplete and imperfect record. It was also written in a different age and doesn't fit our society. I don't think that interpreting scripture is as easy as reading everything literally; I think it is a delicate art whereby we use the Bible along with reason, logic, observation, and conscious to guide us to His grace.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

... wow, you have no right to speak about these things if don't even attend church.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have the right to speak about whatever I feel like. I do go to church a lot but I attend choir practice, Sunday school, community service events, and outreach programs more than the actual service. The strength of someone's faith and the frequency he or she attends services have no correlation.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

you know, technically when the Bible says homosexuality is a sin, it's actually talking about that an older man being in bed with a young boy. it says NOTHING about two men who are in love with each other. so there you go. message is, don't rape kids. end of story.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not to be controversial or anything.. But what if there's no such thing as sin? Or God(s)? Gods have been created to explain away all that humanity does not understand. Many humans do not understand homosexuality. Therefore, many religions say it is against 'God' because it is against everything they belive they understand. However, love is something you should be able to understand, right? And all homosexuality is is just a different form of love..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You people are pathetic.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's ok to be a gay Christian. It's not ok to have intercourse with someone of your same gender.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Im not christian, nor do I have anything against gays, but in the bible it states multiple times that being gay is a sin. A city is burned down for the gay shit they had been doing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(STFU+FAT+CHICKS): It mentions it maybe once or twice and it never talks about homosexuality the way we understand it today. However, the Bible tells you like a billion times to love, forgive, and honor everybody including homosexuals.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can love, forgive, and honor someone, even if you don't agree with their lifestyle.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But you can't love, forgive, and honor someone if you prevent him/her from getting married or adopting children.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(STFU+FAT+CHICKS): actually it gets burned down because they wanted to rape the angels and it was a city of various sins.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The moment I read this amirite, I knew that there would be a shitload of comments under it ranging from 'debate' to 'flame war'. I am, however, glad that this is ranked positive.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's says in the bible that God loves ALL his children equally. There's no footnote that says "except homosexuals". I fail to see why everyone makes a big shit about gay people. If he loves us all, isn't that enough?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm done with this... It has been stated many times that you can love some and disagree with them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Would Jesus discriminate?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Damn, 200+ comments. Time to read them all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Being a homosexual isn't a sin, but having sexual relations with someone of the same sex is considered a sin. God loves all homosexuals because He is the one that made them that way. What He doesn't like is when homosexuals act on their feelings.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Okay, homosexuality is a sin. God says so, so it's so. Alright? Everyone sins, though. It's not like you're going to hell because you're a homosexual. Lying is just as much of a sin as homosexuality. There is no sin that is 'worse' or 'better' than other sins. Since we have all sinned, we've fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 says that. Although homosexuality is a sin, homosexuals are not bad people nor should we judge them because they are JUST PEOPLE. They shouldn't be treated differently, and they shouldn't be discriminated against. A lot of 'Christians' these days are so judgemental that they repel people who want to become Christian. Those types of Christians are just being hypocritical because we're called to love one another. So yes, it's okay to be a gay Christian because all Christians sin.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree with what you are saying but I wanted to point out that God never said homosexuality was a sin, the Bible said homosexuality was a sin. There is a pretty big difference.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, the Bible is God's word. But I see what you're saying.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's God's word according to a bunch of random people. Stuff gets lots in translation.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Seems like using the Old Testament as a source doesn't go anywhere with the amirite community because of it's ridiculously legalistic rules and commands (which is true in part, but that's another topic). As for homosexuality in the New Testament, which specifically applies to Christians because of its role as the source of the Christian faith: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Timothy+1&version=NIV Please use this as a reference for the following: Paul, a modern prophet converted by Jesus Christ himself, explicitly tells his student Timothy that the law (that is, the Christian Church) is not for homosexuals, along with others. A homosexual can not say he or she is a Christian unless they have a selective, and thus logically fallacious, view of the Bible. He or she must choose one: the Church or his/her partner. To be in both is violation of what God tells his followers through the Apostle Paul.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As long as you're not one of them penticostals. (read Oranges are not the only fruit for more info on lesbian exorcism)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I would just like to say that I'm not really taking a side here, I'm just sharing my thoughts. I personally, am an agnostic, and I find this issue very muddy. The bible gives very mixed messages as far as homosexuality. First of all it is a sin (according to the bible). Here are some verses. Leviticus 18:22 Leviticus 20:13 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 1 Timothy 3:3 However the bible hints at David and Jonathan being homosexual. Saying that Jonathan "Delighted much in David" (1 Samuel 19:2) and "David loved Jonathan more than a woman" (2 Samuel 1:26). The clincher for this is that David was called a man after God's own heart., even though he acted in a homosexual way and homosexuality is supposed to be an abomination to God. Confusing? Yes. Also in Matthew Jesus saves the Centurion's slave from death. People have debated about the Hebrew rhetoric of the time saying the slave and the Centurion appeared to be homosexual, however Jesus didn't seem to have a problem with it. (continued)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Then we see another instance in which homosexuality might have appeared. Ruth 1:14 says "Ruth clave to her" ("her" being Sarah, her mother-in-law. Ruth's husband had died). But Ruth was one of THE MOST revered women in the bible. There are also many other instances where Biblical scholars surmise that there were homosexual actions. So summing up. - Mainly, it's hard to understand the bible. It's a very old text that was translated numerous times, first from Hebrew to Latin, then to German Latin, then to German etc. Now there's different versions of the bible like NIV, ESV, NLT, etc. The more modern versions seem to be more clear about the homosexual acts then the older versions... And it's just really confusing. - Yes. The God of the bible says homosexuality is a sin. - The role models of the bible appeared to act in homosexual ways, and God still loved them. - So back to the post is it okay to be a gay Christian? I say it's largely up to that specific person.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never noticed the subtle homosexuality in the Bible before but I definitely see it. Even if the Bible does say it is a sin (I don't believe so) the Bible says it's totally okay to be a Christian sinner. In fact, all Christians (and non-Christians) are sinners. According to the Bible we are supposed to love EVERYBODY, men and women so I don't see how it would be a sin to love someone of the same gender.

by Anonymous 12 years ago
